A Sylar/Claire fic.

...

Disclaimer: Nope, don't own Heroes. Just having fun with the characters.

...

A/N: Alrighty, this one was number 66 on my list of Sylar/Claire fics to write.

I anticipate that this will be a fairly short one as well ... I know. I'm trying to break the cycle, but I keep getting these ideas for one-shots, and I just have to get them down!

Anywhoo, here we go.

I hope you guys like it, I know I'll love writing it.

As always, please read and review, I live for feedback!

...

It would be foolish for anyone to assume that Claire Bennet had managed to tame the beast that was Sylar.

It had been almost fifty years since Claire's most famous swan-dive, and a lot had changed since then. Most of the people that she had known had died, whether because they were hunted down, or simply from old age. Her grandmother, her father, many of the Specials she'd met through the years. Not all of them had died, though. Peter was still around, though they didn't see each other very often. He was still trying to save the world, and Claire was just trying to live in it.

The people who had known - or even known of - Sylar, back when he was an active serial killer, couldn't believe that Claire would let him into her life. They told her that she was nuts for thinking he could change. Her brother, who'd only ever seen the damage that Sylar could do, had cast her out, telling her he wouldn't let her put their mother through what he saw as a vast error in judgment. They all still saw him as the psychopath that he once was.

Claire supposed that they might be right. He wasn't exactly entirely reformed. He wasn't the Gabriel Gray that he had once been. But he was no longer killing Specials for their powers.

He only ever killed in self-defense now ... or in defense of Claire. Though neither of them could ever die, he was very protective of her, and her well-being. If someone bumped into her, he nearly threw them into the nearest wall. If someone dared to whistle at her, or send catcalls her way, they would suddenly find themselves with a forcibly sealed mouth, clawing at their faces in a maddened attempt to figure out what the problem was.

Claire would roll her eyes at such antics, but on some level, she loved the protectiveness he felt for her. She loved that even though he knew she was indestructible, he felt it his obligation to protect her from any kind of harm.

Sylar definitely still had his moments ... moments where the killer in him could be seen. But the hunger that had driven him to kill for powers, to know more about the world they lived in ... that had dissipated a couple decades ago, when Claire had given herself completely to him.

She saw a goodness in him that few cared to seek, but she also didn't ask him to change for her. That was quite possibly the one thing that made their relationship last. She accepted him for who he was, and who he wanted to be. She believed that he could overcome his evil, but did not force him to be purely good.

So, Claire's decision to remain with him separated her from most of the people that she'd once held dear. But, she couldn't focus on that. One day soon, they would all be gone, and she would be left alone, if not for Sylar.

So, some might call her delusional for staying with a psychopath. Maybe he was a psychopath ... but he was her psychopath. And nothing anyone said was going to change that.

...

The end.

Sigh ... very short. I do hope you can forgive me. I promise, I'll make up for these short ones with a big one, soon!

Well, what did you guys think? Like it, hate it?

Reviews are appreciated, flame if you must, but constructive criticism is much more useful.

Until next time ...!
