"That joke was not funny! It was cruel and insensitive! Apologize for saying that right now!" Sheldon demanded.
"I'm sorry," said Amy monotonically.
"Did Amy's words sound sincere to you?" Sheldon asked. "Of course they didn't. They sounded phony. Especially because you heard her say those words only because I made her say them. If you're truly sorry for something, you'll apologize without being asked. If someone makes you apologize for something you're not sorry for, you have two choices. Choice A-refuse to apologize. Choice B-lie by delivering an insincere apology. Choice B sounds like the worse choice, but that's just me."
Sheldon then reached off-camera and held up a bottle of ketchup with the cap open. He then proceeded to invert the bottle, spilling ketchup on the floor.
"Sorry about that," Sheldon continued. "But even if your apology is sincere, if it for something worse than saying the wrong thing, like what you just saw me do, your apology does nothing to solve the problem at hand. Apologies do not eliminate the need for action in instances like these. And as for forced apologies, forced apologies can only be described as malarkey!"
