Jack Phillips believed in science. Proof, theories, chemicals, numbers, he put his faith in those alone. Crack pot theories, assumptions to him were a waste of time and only the unintelligent and naive played mind to them. He used to be unafraid to share his thoughts to anyone willing and unwilling to listen, and when in the first grade he was sent to the principals office after arguing with a classmate there is no God; he learned when to stay quiet. A time and place for everything he was taught and applied to his life. There was time prior to that just five years old wearing a black suit with a red tie, sitting next to his mother who held Fiona on her lap staring at father's casket; he got so mad at everyone telling him he'd see daddy again. Jack knew he won't. And they were fools to think anyone would. There are times for a fleeting moment he wishes he had faith in the unseen like his sister and Annie, they always seemed to have a purpose always searching for something - it never ended. But science never fails, science is safe.
