Chapter 1

Skylar's Letter

Once the black, gothic sheets of her bed were tidy, Skylar decided to go for a shower… at 5 in the morning… during the second week of summer. It was bright outside and Skylar realised that she had managed to sleep a record of 4 hours. She walked out of her room and turned to face the cupboard that held the towels. Removing two dark purple ones, Skylar made her way to the large shared bathroom on the other side of the hall.

After flicking on the light switch outside, locking the wooden door and pulling the extractor cord, Skylar began to get ready for the shower. Dragging the black hair bobble along the dark purple ends of her hair, Skylar looked in the small mirror to study the scars along her back. Soon, new ones would be scrawled along her bony back. Trying to divert her mind from the horror it would come up with about then, Skylar stepped into the scalding water of the shower.

Skylar sat listening for the owls. She was in her room with a warm bagel and her hand resting on the keys of her laptop, her favourite game lighting up the room. It was now just after seven and both her parents were downstairs talking about…probably about the same thing that Skylar's mind was on. Skylar turned her attention back to the screen for only a short time before a loud 'hoot' was heard and Skylar shot up from her desk and raced down the stairs.

"Someone's eager. Expecting something? Maybe a looove letter?" a middle aged man with mousey hair and rectangular glasses asked with a laugh.

"Expecting something? Yes. Love letter? Well, you can hope," the short, long haired girl replied, as she picked a letter off the table. A letter with a large red seal. "Ha ha! Yes!" the girl cried, holding the letter in the air.

"Open it then Skylar," a women with a large black pony tail said.

"I am Mum," Skylar replied as she carefully opened the letter, "Miss Larentia, I am happy to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

"Well congratulations, little girl," Skylar's dad, Andrew, said as he slapped her on the back.

"We all knew it was coming. I mean, she's had the interview already."

"I know love, I was just teasing. Jeez, you certainly take after your mother, Sky."

The three of them laughed for a bit until Casey came down the stairs.

"What's going…on?" Skylar's tired little sister asked.

"Skylar's going to her new school! We'll have to go down to London soon," Skylar's mum turned her attention to Andrew, "How about Sunday? That gives us eight days to get her stuff."

"Sounds good to me. Casey, do you want me to help you pack later then?"

"Mhhmm…" Casey said as she trudged back upstairs.

"Alright then. I'm going back up. See you later," Skylar stated as she headed towards the stairs and into the dark room.
