Kokoro

System completed.

System is now turning on.

The robot voice spoke up as the monitors around there were running and shining brightly, bringing their light all across the room. Standing in the middle of the room was a young girl with wires attaching to her body. She had fair skin and short brown hair that barely reached her shoulders blade. On her head was a white headset with a big white bow attached to it and on her bang were two white hairclips. She wore a sleeveless pure white blouse attached to the sailor-style collar which was black with red stripes. Tied under the collar was a big bow similar to the one on her headset, but it was red. Worn on her forearms was a pair of separate black sleeves with red trim. Her shorts were black and wrapped around her waist was a white belt attached to a white strap. At her legs were black kogal-styled socks with red trim and white boots that were worn underneath them.

"Now open your eyes."

Hearing the voice, she slowly raised her head up her eyes fluttered open. The brown orbs of hers immediately met the crimson red ones of the person standing in front of her. He was a bald man with fair skin. He wore a white lab coat on top of a white shirt. Tied beneath the collar was a green tie. He also wore a pair of brown gloves, black pants and black shoes.

"Good morning." He smiled at her. "Do you know who I am?"

"You are my professor." She answered.

"Is the system working properly?"

"No problem."

"Then…" He said happily at her. "Your name is Ellegaard. It's a miracle to welcome you into this world."

"Ellegaard, look at these flowers!"

The professor said as he held a boutique of fresh yellow flowers to Ellegaard. He just picked them outside the garden this morning and the sparkling drops of the early dew was an addition to their beauty.

Expecting her to take it or smiled in joy at the beautiful boutique, he was kind of surprised that she just stood there still and stared at it in silence. He decided to speak up to break the silence between them.

"Aren't them beautiful?"

"Yes, they are." She just gave him a short answer with her emotionless voice.

"I picked them just for you!"

Only after he said that, she finally held up her hands and took it.

"Thank you, professor."

She said, but her voice was still emotionless and her face showed no joy he was expecting. Her brown orbs showed no spark and her lips remained still, forming no smile.

He just stood there and looked at her, eyes filled with sadness.

"Ellegaard! Come, I'll show you something!"

Hearing his voice calling for her, she walked toward him and stood beside him. Once she was next to him, he took her hand and led her outside. Once they were out in the garden, he released her hand and looked at the scene before them.

The sight was absolutely stunning. The midnight was a dark shade of blue and the stars were sparkling beautifully against it. The moon was shining gently down the grass, making it glowed brightly. The bright yellow shade of the flowers on the ground blended perfectly with the beautiful pink glow of the cherry blossom. The scene was so romantic.

Smiling at the sight, he turned to her. "What do you think, Ellegaard?"

She said nothing.

"Isn't it beautiful?"

"Yes, they are." She answered simply again.

"Do you like it?"

"Yes, I do."

Her robotic tone and emotionless facial expression just made him even sadder despite the beautiful scene.

"Professor, would you like some refreshment?"

Startled by her voice, he turned around to see Ellegaard standing behind him with a tray and a cup of ice coffee on top of it. He smiled at her as she put the tray beside him on the desk.

"Thank you, Ellegaard." He said. "I wasn't expecting you to stay up this late."

"My duty is to take care of you, professor."

Hearing her caring words in her usual emotionless tone, he just looked at her sadly and patted her head. "It's very kind of you to say that. But hey, you should get some sleep. It's one o'clock in the morning anyway."

"What about you, professor?" She asked.

He smiled gently at her. "I'll be okay on my own. Don't worry, I'll go to bed once I'm done with this."

She nodded in reply and turned away. But before she took her step, she turned her head back and asked. "Professor, what are you working on?"

"Oh…" He said as his fingers continued to type the keys on his keyboard. "Well, I'm making… something that is very important to you."

"I see."

Not asking more, she finally took her steps and walked away. But as her hand was inches away from the doorknob, he called out. "Oh, Ellegaard…"

"Yes, professor?"

He turned his head around and smiled at her once again. "You can call me Magnus if you like from now on."

"Yes, professor."

She answered before turning the doorknob and left the room. Magnus just watched her closing the door behind her. He sighed before turning his eyes back to the monitors screen and his fingers continued typing.

Their lives just continued on just like that until few hundred years later. Wandering in the old house where she was born, she looked at the sight around her. Dust and broken pieces of rock were all over the place and they crumbled under her steps. The ceiling that was once clean and tidy was now full of spider web. Everything changed completely.

Going inside Magnus's office, she walked toward his monitors and looked down at the keyboards. She had always wondered why he was always sitting on his chair and typing all day. He worked so much that he sometimes forgot to eat and sleep, just to make her… "something."

She started to remember something as she continued to stare quietly at the keyboard.

"Don't ever open this system. It might be too much for you." That was he always told her.

Taken over by curiosity, she started to move her hand toward the keyboard until her finger pressed a key. Robotic voice started to speak again.

Program activated.

"KOKORO" data is now transferring.

She stood there in silence until something in her started to move. The spark in her eyes started to appear and her body vibrated. As she was startled of what was happening, she felt something wet at the corners of her eyes. She used one hand to touch it and brought it down to see what it was. A drop of tears was seen as more rolled down her cheeks. She gripped her chest, feeling something beating inside it.

It was her heart.

Her body continued shaking, tears continued running down and dropped on the desk and her hands gripped the desk for support as emotion waves rushed pass her body.

Was this the "something" he had spent the rest of his life making for her? A heart… that was beating so fast in her chest right now?

As tears continued to roll down her rosy cheeks, more files started to appear. She looked through them and soon saw pictures on them. She saw a beautiful woman that had short brown hair and brown eyes and looked just like her. The woman was smiling happily while holding a boutique of beautiful fresh flowers.

In another picture, she saw the same woman but she was in a gorgeous wedding dress and a long veil. Someone was holding her hand and put a ring around her finger.

She then saw another picture with that same woman in it. She was lying on the bed with her eyes tightly shut. She seemed to be in a very bad condition and someone whose face couldn't be seen was gripping her hand

At the end of the pictures, Ellegaard saw a file filled with text. She read it out.

February 20th, 20XX

Dear Ellegaard,

I'm writing this to you because I miss you so much. I know that you won't be able to read this, but I just want to let out the emotions that are whelming in me at this moment.

Ellegaard, I appreciate every moment we spent together, even when we still hated each other. You still remember that time? We argue so much that I lost count. Haha… thinking about this makes me feel funny somehow.

But still, the moment I still remember very clearly. That was when I confessed my feelings to you. Our argument was so intense until I accidentally exclaimed "Why can't I tell you that I love you for once?!" Everything suddenly fell into silence and I was going to tell you that I was just messing around with you. But when you said "I didn't know you feel the same way", I froze in place. I'd never been so happy in my life that my feelings were accepted.

From the day we got together, I tried my best to make you happy. I loved seeing your smile, Ellegaard, I really did. Whenever you had that beautiful smile of yours, you warmed up my heart. And you still remember our wedding day as well, don't you Ellie? The moment when I put the ring around your finger… I felt like the time just stopped, letting us enjoy our happy time together.

I wish they would just stay the same, but wishes are just wishes. The cancer took you away from me and I blamed myself so much. I myself am a scientist, yet I couldn't even save you! I felt so useless. Even when you told me not to cry, I couldn't hold my tears back. Losing you is like losing everything. I really mean it, Ellegaard.

That's all. I've written out everything I wanted to tell you. I love you very much and I still do, Ellegaard. I know you have gone far away from me, but maybe you can read this from above one day. If so then I'll be so happy.

With all of my love,

Magnus.

Ellegaard's knees felt weak. She knelt down the ground and let tears rolled down her cheeks and onto the dusty ground beneath her.

So… that was the meaning of her creation? A robot with the look of his loved woman was born to fill in the empty hole in his heart, to ease his pain, to make his days be colorful again. Yet… she wasn't able to make him feel happy until the last day of his life.

She kept crying and crying her emotions out until something suddenly flew gently across her vision. Looking down, she realized that it was a petal of the yellow flowers. She picked it up and stared at it for a while before standing up. She ran toward the door and burst it open, letting the bright light inside the house. She ran out of the garden and the cool breeze immediately greeted her. Enjoying the fresh air, she finally saw the true beauty of the sight.

Picking a big bouquet of flowers, she brought it to her professor, who was now a lifeless body sitting on a chair.

"Arigatou." She sang. "Arigatou for bringing me into this beautiful world. Arigatou for giving me all of your cares and love. Arigatou for spending the precious moments with me. Arigatou for everything… Magnus."

"I will sing forever."

"Arigatou."

"Arigatou…"

It was exactly a miracle.

The robot that obtained "Kokoro" kept running. She sang all of her feelings.

But the miracle lasted only a moment.

The "Kokoro" was far too big for her to withstand.

At the end, the machine shorted and was never to move again.

However, at the very last moment her face was still filled with smile.

And she looked like, really did look like, an angel.
