all falls down

all I can give you

Neji says it is heartbreak that upholds the Hyuuga line. He is not wrong, he seldom is, and he has centuries of history to prove it, not that anyone would ever question him. Not that he's ever voiced his theory. It's too romantic.

His latest example, Hinata, his shy, pretty cousin would have hardly made a good clan leader if she had been happy. If Uzumaki Naruto, the exuberant hero-Hokage of Konoha had chosen her, and not the medic, Neji is sure the Hyuuga line would have disintegrated. If shy, pretty Hinata had hope and love, she would still stutter and blush like an ineffective fool, and things would go cheerfully wrong. Fortunately, loss has left her icy and distant and perfect to be the leader she was born to be, for the time being. Then, when she dies, and she will soon because there is history to prove that broken hearts cannot beat for long, Neji will slip in smoothly and all will be fine.

Except he doesn't know how to end his training sessions with his long-term partner in order to have time to search for a different kind of long-term partner. He hopes, which he rarely does, that heartbreak improves weapon mastery, because it is all he has to offer.

Heartbreak is the strength of the Hyuuga line.
