LEO WYATT
"Has anyone heard of the Greek term, 'cosmos'?"
The room was silent.
The first day of school can be rough, especially when you're a freshman. Leo Wyatt glanced around the room sympathetically, noting the looks of boredom in each and every student. He recalled his first day of high school bitterly. He almost chocked at the thought. Of course, Leo had attended a private school in San Francisco, which unlike this school and unlike its students had no 'magical' or 'supernatural' qualities what so ever.
"Anyone?" Leo continued, pressing the children for a reply. "No one?" he gasped, pretending to be appalled. "I know it's the first day of Magic School and I know it's early, but c'mon guys!"
The students frightfully glanced around, silently urging someone to speak up. Just as Leo had given up hope, a pretty girl with too much makeup raised her hand tentatively. She glanced around at her friends and gained a surge of confidence.
"Like… uh… cosmetics?" she spat, her red lips were pursed into a 'white girl' pose. She held her phone in front of her. Her arm was extended in the air. Leo frowned, confused. It took him a moment to register that she was taking a 'selfie'.
"Um, excuse me, but you can't use your cellphone in class," Leo muttered.
"Yeah, one sec, 'kay?" she replied, still staring at the phone. "Jus' need to send this Snapchat."
Leo sighed and looked too his left. His eyes met a blonde woman in her twenties, who sat on a stool with her back against the wall. Drool dripped from the corner of her mouth and she let out a small snort. A purse hung from her shoulder and slipped slowly to the ground.
"Billie!" Leo shouted.
Billie stirred in her sleep.
"BILLIE!"
Billie woke, quickly wiping the drool from her cheek. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face and stared at Leo, dazed.
"Uh…yeah," she whispered. Her eyes slowly began to shut. Leo clapped loudly, trying to wake her. Billie opened her eyes once again, regaining consciousness. "Oh! Right! Wait… what?" she muttered. Billie glanced around the room, noticing the children for the first time.
"This is Ms. Jenkins, my assistant for the hour," Leo frowned. Billie nodded, waving to the students. Leo continued. "Ms. Jenkins is a witch who studied with the Charmed Ones," (there was a chorus of 'wows' and 'omfg's')
Leo nodded and motioned towards the girl with her phone. Billie sighed, smacking her gum loudly.
"Let the object of objection become but a dream…." She froze and blew a bubble. It popped loudly and she continued, "…as I cause the scene to be unseen."
The phone disappeared.
(There were more 'wows' and 'omfg's')
The pretty girl moaned, her lip trembling.
"My twitter!" she whispered.
"Can I leave now?" Billie muttered, yawning. Leo smiled, feeling flushed with accomplishment.
"Yes," he grinned. Billie disappeared out the door, dragging her purse behind her. Leo heard her mumbling as she left.
"Yeah sure, Billie will help teach at seven in the morning… I don't even like children…."
