Today is the choosing ceremony. I, Annabeth Chase, will be deciding probably the biggest decision in my life. What faction to spend the rest of my life in. My results were inconclusive, meaning I'm divergent, and guessing by the way Clarisse (my aptitude tester) told me, it was dangerous. Clarisse had said that she recorded manually that my results were Erudite, my faction's closest friend. In case you're wondering, I'm in Amity, the peaceful. I guess, it's a pretty good faction but sometimes I just can't be peaceful. It's just not me. I prefer to be free, like a bird flying carelessly out in the open sky.
"Hey, so which faction are you choosing?" asked my best friend, Shauna.
"I don't know" I replied.
And I don't. I think my preference is tilting a bit to Dauntless but I guess it's as they say, "Only time will tell". I walk down the hallways of the Amity buildings, the buildings I spent most of my entire life in. Today, I will decide whether to continue staying here, or to leave and make a new home, a different life. We reached the end of the hallway, and there led the entrance to the choosing ceremony room, which was crowded. I was quite relieved when I heard that the choosing ceremony would be held in the Amity headquarters this year because car rides isn't my thing. I walked down to red and yellow section, the colour of my faction.
"Quiet please!" shouted Johanna Reyes, the representative of my faction. Johanna had sharp eyes, alert and awake at all times, which is a scary thing about her features. Another thing is her scar that runs along her face. I was told that it was a mark of pride. "Today is the day, which the children's of our generation make their choice, whether to stay in their current faction or transfer to a different faction. Ever since the war ended here, on our homeland, our ancestors divided us into five factions. Amity, the peaceful, Dauntless, the brave, Candor, the honest, Abnegation, the selfless and Erudite, the intelligent. Our ancestors said that every person has a fatal flaw, five different flaws. Today, we carry on to make our ancestors proud, to make our homeland proud, and to continue our everlasting world. Thank you" I applauded politely, getting nervous and nervous.
After a few minutes, Johanna came with a book, recording all the people in my age group in alphabetical order. "Fiona Ali "she called out and I watched her get out of her seat and walk to the stage. She was wearing grey, definitely abnegation. Their clothes are not stylish at all. She walked towards the five bowls set in front of her. The one on the right had water in it, erudite. Next to it was grey stones, abnegation, the one after has earth, amity, the one after had glass, candor and lastly lit coals, dauntless. Johanna handed her a knife, in which she had to cut herself and drip her blood into one of the factions. She hesitated and then cut herself and let her blood drip into the grey stones, so she stayed in her same faction. I guess that it's an act of selflessness, to transfer would be selfish. To the abnegation anyways.
More people were called out. A few had transferred but most of them had stayed in their old faction. "Michael Canni" was called and he walked to the stage. Johanna handed him a knife and he cut himself, letting his blood drip onto the earth. He had transferred to my faction, without hesitation. How could he have made his mind up so quickly? "Annabeth Chase" Johanna called. I gulped and got out of my sleeve. Before I left, I heard my mother whispering "good luck" and Shauna held my hand for a nanosecond, to let me know she was there. I walked nervously to the stage, my mind going off to random places. Johanna handed me a knife, which I took. I stood in front of the five bowls. This is it, I told myself. I cut my hand, closed my eyes and let my blood drip. Dauntless, this is the decision I choose.
