A/N: A tiny introspective Jemma piece.
Spoilers: for episode 1x06 FZZT.
Disclaimer: I own neither a bus or a plane or a Chitauri helmet, but wouldn't it be cool if I did though..., and I don't own Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. either.
She had always been a person of logic and science. Not letting her emotions control her actions, which of course wasn't the same as not caring, she was as compassionate as the next guy. That's why she knew what she had to do now, it was the only logical choice. For once science had failed had failed her. So she had sent the others away, knowing that they would be able to stop her. But Fitz was still here, she knew she wasn't going to be able to remove him from the lab, so she did the only other thing she could do, she locked him in there, after knocking out.
Now as she stood there on the edge looking down, she hesitated, all of the logical resolve in her to do this, to jump, wavered. She loved life, it was one big scientific mystery, a puzzle that she loved solving. And under any other circumstances she would never even consider this way out. Plummeting to your death just didn't seem logic anymore. She could hear that Fitz was on his feet again, it would only be a matter of time before he got the doors opened and was able to stop her, he was an engineer after all. And the others wouldn't be far behind him. Alerted to the situation by the soaring loud alarm. She turned around looked at him, and knew what she had to do. She might not be able to save herself, but she could save the others, and Fitz.
Survival was the logical driving force of the species, but being selfish, wanting to live, to survive, all of that evaporated in an instant of looking at Fitz. Knowing he would die if she didn't do this made her resolve return stronger than before. And she couldn't help but smile a little sad smile as she leaned backwards and made the wind catch and pull her out of the Bus' cargo hold ramp. If she had known emotions were this powerful she might have listened to them sooner.
A/N: I feel this was possibly a bit OOC since Jemma came out a little colder than I think she is. But the story demanded it be written this way, sorry.
And I'm never getting over this scene.
