Orin stood, bloody and bruised a vampire in front of him. A big guy, strong, as most vampires are, with a scar across the right side of his face. Orin stood in a fighting stance, and the vampire laughed, letting out chuckles.

"Are you serious? How dumb are you? I wasn't even bothering you and you attacked me! And you knew what I am too! You basically jumped into your grave boy!" The vampire said in his loud boisterous voice.

"You were going to hurt that girl." Orin replied.

They were both standing on a sidewalk, on a dark street. Orin grimaced from the pain. He had been struck in the face, and his eye was already swelling up. His lip had a small cut on it, and his right arm was badly bruised. He stood his ground, his eyes slightly tearing from the stinging in his face. The vampire circled him, mocking.

"I'm actually sort of impressed. That first kick you threw really surprised me. Unfortunately, you've been watching too many kung-fu flicks I'm afraid. They don't usually tell you that it hurts to get hit." He laughed again.

"Maybe not, but movies have taught me a few good things, so I wouldn't bash them entirely." Orin said.

"Oh and what would those things be?" He asked.

"Ya know, the protagonist usually gets beat up in the end, only to come out on top and usually walk off into the sunset. But seeing as how its night, moonlight might have to do."

"Oh really?" He asked.

"Yes. Really. But tell me why you just didn't go ahead and kill me?"

"I wanted to have some fun, it's not often a vampire gets to have a good fight."

The vampire moved closer and Orin stepped back, breaking a twig with his foot.

"Okay, now it's boring. Time to die kid."

The vampire said while walking towards Orin. Orin stepped back further, but the vampire jumped, and he and Orin landed together on the floor, rolling, Orin found himself on top of the vampire, his knees on the vampire's chest, and the vampire let out a growl, which turned into a gasp.

"You did know that, I'm the protagonist, right?" Orin said.

The vampire fell into dust, and Orin found himself on the cold sidewalk stone.

"I am really getting the hang of this! The getting beat up part isn't that fun, but kicking ass is."

Orin said as he brushed his torn, slightly bloody jeans off and tightened the laces of his sneakers. Then he walked off in the moonlight.
