This is my second story... EVER! I don't really get that much time to write fanfiction but I sure like to read it! Ok... I have basically fallen in love with Doctor Who and wanted to try writing a one-shot about Ten and Rose from one of my favorite episodes, The Satan Pit.
I just kept thinking, what were the thoughts of the Doctor as he dropped the rest of the way into the pit? So this is my take on it. The Doctor's thoughts are italicized. Don't be too harsh!
"If you talk to Rose again, tell her... tell her..." He couldn't bring himself to say it. Even now, when he knew he most likely wouldn't see her again, he just didn't know how say it. The Doctor briefly thought back to the words his ninth regeneration spoke to the Dalek Emperor on Satellite 5.
Coward.
Quite right, too.
The Doctor scoffed at himself. He survived the Time War, defeated the Slitheen, and absorbed the Time Vortex but he couldn't tell Rose the truth. Ida was waiting for more, but his mouth just couldn't speak what his heart had felt for quite some time, if he was truthful about the matter.
What he had promised Rose was the rest of her life, the rest of her life on the TARDIS, with him. "Not you," he had told her when she asked if she would be left behind like Sarah Jane and the others. Not you. And he had meant it, with every fiber of his being. But he was leaving her behind now, with nothing but that false promise and death by Ood to await her. He'd promised to protect her, to bring her back, to show her all of time. And in return she had promised him a cup of tea every morning, a dazzling smile, and forever.
As he gripped the line a bit tighter, more memories flashed through his brilliant mind.
Rose skipping around the console on the TARDIS, making his ship her confidant in some strange matter.
Rose stroking his hand with her thumb after he read the letter from Madame de Pompadour.
Coming into the kitchen to find her stocking the cabinets with an endless supply of bananas.
But most of all, he remembered when he had first taken her hand, and told her to run. Somewhere in his hearts he felt that when she smiled, when she looked at him, she was really telling him something in her own way, or acknowledging what he felt. As he though back on every glance, every touch, every tiny little moment they had shared together, he came to a conclusion:
"Oh, she knows."
As he dropped the rest of the way, he couldn't help but smile when he felt a familiar, soothing voice caress his conscience.
"Doctor... are you there? Can you hear me? Doctor?"
Ok so it was more what he was thinking about before he unhooked the last clip. Oopsie. Please review!
