"Cyrus!," TJ called out to his "friend" Cyrus. TJ weaved and bobbed through the crowd of students as they scrambled to get to third period classes. Once he made it to Cyrus' locker, TJ smoothly leaned up against its door with a triumphant smirk.
Cyrus smiled as he adjusted his satchel trap. "Before you start," Cyrus began softly. "I have something for you." Cyrus opened his bag to reveal another bag with a box inside. He handed it to TJ.
"Underdog!," TJ crooned sweetly. "Ya shouldn't have...uh...what is it?," TJ asked quite surprised. Cyrus swiftly ran his fingers through his lush hair with a smirk. "One blueberry macadamia muffin and another muffin I think you might like," Cyrus stated.
TJ gave Cyrus a sentimental gaze that made Cyrus' smile widen. "You were right," Cyrus began feeling embarrassed. "Blueberry macadamia muffins do exist." TJ looked down at the bag in his hand then back into Cyrus' brunette brown downturned eyes.
"Thanks Cyrus," TJ smiled warmly. "Hang with me this weekend?," TJ proposed. Cyrus nodded his head and broke into a grin. "Yeah," Cyrus replied eagerly. "Good 'cause we got a lot to do," TJ teased with a wink.
Cyrus smirked, giving him a suspicious look as TJ lightly smacked his shoulder before walking away. Cyrus looked over his right shoulder, watching TJ walk towards his next class. "I wonder what we're doing this weekend."
It was finally the weekend and Tyrus was ready to hang out. Buffy ran to catch up with Cyrus when she saw him sprint through the school entrance. "Cyrus!," she called out.
Cyrus turned around as Buffy caught up to him giving him a quick hug. "What's up?," Buffy asked. "Got any plans for the weekend?" Cyrus nodded and started to explain before TJ seemed to teleport out of nowhere.
"Hey Driscoll," TJ greeted teasingly. Buffy turned her head to the left and smirked. "Hey Kippen," she greeted back with a smile. Cyrus was glad these two were on good terms now and could hold healthy conversations.
Buffy took a quick glance at them realizing they might've had plans. "Are you two hangin' this weekend?," she asked coyly. TJ smirked looking away and Cyrus looked expectantly towards him. "I-I think we can add one more person," he began. "Right TJ?," Cyrus asked sweetly.
TJ gave Cyrus a side-eyed look. "It's supposed to be you and me Underdog," TJ whined to himself. He gave in quickly once he looked into Cyrus' expectant eyes. "Yeah no problem," TJ said giving in. Cyrus smiled looking up at TJ with admiration but Buffy cleared her throat.
"I actually have plans with Walker," she gushed while twirling the ends of her hair." TJ and Cyrus simultaneously smiled at Buffy. "What?!," she asked with a light chuckle. "Look I just wanted to know if you were free Sunday," Buffy said to Cyrus.
Cyrus looked back at TJ. TJ smirked with a nod. "It won't take all weekend," TJ replied. Cyrus smiled and told Buffy he was free on Sunday. Buffy really wanted to have a heart to heart with Cyrus. They haven't been able to sit down and talk lately.
Buffy especially couldn't hang out with Andi either. Andi spent most of her time hanging out with Amber. Buffy and Amber have a complicated relationship. Well, not so complicated anymore. Ever since they had a therapy session with Dr. Cyrus, they seemed to be on good terms.
They would often say hi to each other in passing but nothing more than that. Buffy really did miss her best friends though. So she was really happy when Cyrus said yes to spending time together Sunday. "Kay then I'll see you Sunday at my house Cyrus," Buffy called out walking away.
"What?," TJ began raising his voice. "Can't get no love Driscoll?!," TJ said playfully. Buffy smirked turning her head around slightly while looking over her left shoulder.
"Bye Kippeeen," she replied in a sing-song voice. Cyrus sheepishly smiled with a shrug. "I'm glad you're both okay with each other now," he gushed softly. TJ chuckled and threw his right arm around Cyrus' shoulder. A quick hug ensued, making Cyrus smile.
"Let's begin with number 6 on your list," TJ stated. Cyrus looked up at TJ confused. As they continued walking towards the school parking lot, TJ smirked. "Don't tell me you forgot," TJ blurted overly dramatic. Cyrus laughed as he shook his head.
"My 'Can't Do' list?!," he asked in surprise. They both laughed as they headed towards the park. When they made it to the swings, Cyrus sat down. TJ sat down on a swing next to him and began to list off what Cyrus all ready accomplished.
"You took your muffin, overcame your fear of swinging high, learned to do a somersault, rode a dirt bike, and recently spoke up about what's right," TJ stated looking at Cyrus' list on his phone. Cyrus rotated to the right on his swing so he was facing TJ.
"Spoke up about what's right?," he asked. "When did I...?," Cyrus began trailing off. He seemed to do that a lot more every time he looked into TJ's eyes. TJ smiled a little. "When you told me I can be oblivious and intimidating," he replied softly.
Cyrus narrowed his eyes looking down. "Hey," TJ said slowly raising Cyrus' chin with his left hand. "I said you were right," TJ said gently. Cyrus smiled. "You know I didn't mean it in a malicious way," Cyrus began. "Right?"
TJ grinned with a chuckle. "Yeah." He scrolled down to number 6. "Now you're gonna walk under an arch," TJ declared. Cyrus quickly shook his head "no." TJ nodded his head "yes." "I know you can do it Cyrus," TJ said confidently.
"Teej," Cyrus said as his voice cracked. "It's really weird but I just can't-," Cyrus continued before TJ cut him off. "Ya know I really hate that word?," TJ confessed softly. "Don't ever tell yourself that." Cyrus calmed down as TJ rested his left hand behind his head near the nape of his neck.
Before Cyrus knew it, his parents drove the two to Arches National Park where The Delicate Arch is located. They had made it just before the sun began to set in the sky. "You are so good to Cyrus," Cyrus' mother began looking at TJ. "Thank you for helping him to overcome his fears with us."
TJ smiled and said it was no problem. Cyrus stared at The Delicate Arch and inched towards it in trepidation. TJ began walking ahead of Cyrus until he had walked under the arch to the other side. "Cyrus I want you to only look at me and don't think about the arch," TJ called out. "Okay?"
Cyrus nodded as his parents and TJ cheered him on. Cyrus took baby steps into a steady pace until he was walking briskly to reach TJ. The shadow of the arch passed over Cyrus' head and then he was standing in front of TJ.
"You did it!," TJ cheered. Cyrus snapped his eyes open and realized what happened. "I did?!," Cyrus exclaimed in relief. "I just focused on you and I wasn't scared anymore." TJ slowly grinned trying not to smile. "What were you afraid of?," he asked.
"I was afraid that if I walked under it it would fall on me," Cyrus confessed softly. TJ shielded Cyrus from looking up at the arch because he saw him begin to shake nervously. "Don't look." Cyrus smiled to himself, burried in the warmth of TJ's dark blue hoodie for a minute.
Cyrus' parents were elated to see their son overcome his fears. "Let's all take a picture!," Cyrus' mom shouted. "C'mon you two!," Cyrus' dad added with a grin. They all took a series of pictures to remember this day. Cyrus was so happy and TJ was proud of him.
As they drove home, TJ had fallen asleep in the backseat. Cyrus felt bad because he thought he inconvenienced TJ due to his past fear of arches. Cyrus gazed out of the left side window while sitting in the backseat of the car with TJ.
His eyes fluttered and then closed. Cyrus snapped his head up and drowsily looked over at TJ. He smiled, leaned over to his side of the car, and went to sleep. Suddenly, they were back at Cyrus' house.
"Cyrus and TJ wake up!," Chris's mom sang loudly. Cyrus shot up, nearly bumping his ahead against the car ceiling. TJ firmly pulled him back down before Cyrus hurt the top of his head. "Underdog you talk in your sleep," TJ drawled. Cyrus bucked his eyes out.
"You heard me?! Wait...I talk in my sleep?!," Cyrus asked surprised. TJ smirked as he lightly ruffled Cyrus' hair. Cyrus peered into TJ's eyes sheepishly. "Did I say anything hashtag weird?," he asked concerned.
TJ unbuckled his seatbelt and chuckled. "I'll tell ya later," he teased. Cyrus quickly unbuckled his seatbelt to catch up to TJ who was all ready walking away from the car. "Are you staying over tonight?," Cyrus asked gently holding on to TJ's right arm.
"Can I? 'Cause I was gonna go home," TJ stated raising an eyebrow. "Yes please! Plus, you have to tell me what I said in my sleep," Cyrus insisted. TJ smiled as Cyrus gently escorted him through his front door.
