Prologue:

I had a ravenous craving for meat, freshly butchered tender meat. I hadn't eaten for the past two days and I longed for anything that was edible. My mouth watered at the thought of food, of any food really. Lately the woods didn't supply much of anything. It was winter and all the fluffy little animals were nowhere to be found. Oh what I wouldn't give for a succulent little rabbit. Or a plump badger, oh it killed me to think about food.

I exhaled and saw my frozen breath. It had gotten colder since last night. And even less food would be around now. I barred my teeth as I stared at the sun rise, it would be three nights that I would go without food. However I clung to the small hope that maybe I would be able to catch a small creature returning to its den. It too would be weak from hunger perhaps I would be able to catch it. I began to wander about the wood in search of something. At this point I would be satisfied with a scrawny little brown mouse.
