Trying to tuck under the sudden barrage of ammunition, his head shot around, looking for his team. Worry he tried to pretend was nothing was already gnawing at his heart. How could any of them still be alive?
"Eli!"
Does he make you high, make you real?
Kate's scream registered so much faster than the name she called. He spotted her face, and he was there, hands moving fast enough to destroy the sword aimed at her head. She didn't even notice. Her arms were tightened around her lover, eyes streaming with tears.
Does he make you cry? Does he know the way you feel?
Tommy took a sick moment to imagine it was his lifeless body wrapped in her arms. Would she cry like that? Would she look so lost? Tommy had first been attracted to Kate because of her strength. Now, seeing her like this, was the first time he realized he loved her.
When had this girl become his life?
Love is all around you, your universe is full
But Tommy's moment of thought was so much quicker than everyone else's. And he was just as fast at pushing such thoughts to the back of their mind, to rear their ugly heads another day, when he wasn't fighting for his life.
But in my world, there is only you.
"Could have been me" words too fast for anyone else to hear, as he moved to block another hit with only his forearm. His following scream was lost in the sounds of the battle.
Kate didn't even look up.
