My mother was a quirky, uniquely kind and an ambitious slytherin. My father was a sensitive yet strong, funny and charismatic gryffendor, I myself took after my father when it came to school. My mother often teased me with the silly fact my hair seemed to clash with the scarlet of my house colors. Appearance-wise I took after my mother. With long tight, red curls, light skin (I NEVER seemed to be able to tan, I just burned) and grey eyes with yellow centers. Most people would call them green at first glance though.
It was the beginning of my seventh year at hogwarts, the castle glided into view sending a large grin to light up my face.
"There it is!" One of my very best friends, Lilly Evans, said as she entered the compartment, adjusting her red and gold striped tie. I was already in my robes, and already hating the heavy, unflattering fabric.

"Can you believe it? Our last year at this old place." She said taking the seat across from me, grinning.

I shook my head smiling "it seems like just yesterday, we were awkward little kids, stumbling around like blind mice" I said with a dramatically nostalgic voice.

"Nat, that WAS only yesterday" Lilly chortled.
The train came to a hissing and steaming holt and students shuffled their way out their compartments. First years being lead off, the rest of us, packed into the thestral drawn carriages.

I was one of the few students who could see a thestral, but for no horrific reason like witnessing a murder or something.
I was sitting in the waiting room of St. Mungo's hospital (visiting a sick aunt) and i saw an ancient wizard draw a final breath, thank god he died from merely old age.

In our carriage was myself; Lilly and to my great pleasure but Lilly's slight resentment, James potter, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. Poor little Peter was forced to ride in a different carriage, seeing as this one was already full.

"Evening Natasha!" James said as he sat directly across from me. His face light up seeing Lilly "all right Evans?"

Lilly smiled slightly and nodded her head as an answer to him. I was impressed. Lilly had started to warm up to Potter, even if it was only just barely.

Seeing as it was the best he was going to get James smiled broadly to himself and sat back in his seat.

The rest of the trip was casually silent when Sirius broke it "so, Volkov, I hear your father got promoted this summer?" He asked me.
I nodded smiling "yep, head of the department of regulation and control for magical creatures, beings department" I said with a bit of pride.
Sirius nodded approvingly and sat back. It was a rather subdued trip so I took to watching the thestrals through the small window.
I knew, this year would either end up boring and like a cut-out, or something (at this point were just hoping for ANYTHING) to happen.

*seeing as this is my first story EVER I'm kinda freaking out, review and let me know if it sucked or not p's and q's!*
