He was waiting for her when the Millennium Falcon docked at the Resistance base. For that reason alone, Rey could not contain the giddy excitement of seeing her old friend as she stepped onto the ramp. She pace quickened as he walked in her direction with a wide grin on his face, and that was when Rey ran down the ramp. She ran straight into him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.
"Finn!" She laughed out loud, feeling his arms tighten around her waist, "You're all right!"
"Why wouldn't I be?" Finn smiled warmly at her and Rey could feel her heart beat faster for reasons she had not yet been able to explain. Finn sensed the sudden tenseness that filled between them and gently shook her, "Hey, we all missed you."
"I-" Rey began to speak, thinking of how the months had felt like years on Ach-To, "I missed you too, Finn."
They stepped apart and the two of them had their first proper look at each other. Finn folded his arms, his lips forming a small smirk on his face.
"You've let your hair down," Finn murmured, as Rey unconsciously reached to twirl a strand of hair.
"Yes. Yes, I did. But you-"
"Argghhhurghh" The two of them jolted as Chewbacca walked right in front of Finn and embraced him. Finn gladly accepted the Wookiee's warm hug and buried his face against his furry chest with a content smile. Absentmindedly, Rey turned around just as Luke Skywalker was stepping off the ramp of the Millennium Falcon. She heaved a big sigh, as the Jedi master walked towards the little crowd that had formed in front of him.
"And you must be Finn," Luke curiously looked at him, reaching out his right hand as Finn's mouth gaped slightly open.
"M-m-master Luke Skywalker!" He wasn't aware of quite how loud he had spoken. He turned to Rey incredulously, "It's Luke Skywalker!"
"I've heard a lot about you, Finn," Luke calmly told the boy, who seemed to forget how to breathe. Luke drew a heavy sigh as he looked from Rey to Finn to Chewie, "Now if you excuse me, I need to see General Organa."
Luke smiled sadly, thinking of the sister he had failed to console and comfort in her greatest hour of need and the sister he had abandoned to fight the First Order by herself. More selfishly, Luke reminded himself that it was he who needed his sister most. He excused himself from the happy reunion and walked towards the Base.
"Urghhargh" Chewbacca growled, trailing behind Luke and leaving Rey and Finn alone again.
"Finn." Rey's expression grew serious, momentarily catching Finn off his guard, "A lot of things happened while I was in training. I learned things about myself that I-"
Finn didn't say anything; he let the nineteen year old formulate her own words.
"I just," She took a deep breath, "I have a lot to tell you."
A/N: This was an idea I was working with for a long time but finally realised how to put into words. Thanks for reading! Please leave a review. I know it's not much yet!
