Vibrations rang up his arm with each strike of the hammer. Transforming ancient molten metal into whatever form he willed. He continued striking forcefully upon the semi-formed metal, slowly forming the metal bar into a weapon worthy of a god.
None of the other gods ever truly appreciated the art of metalworking during his life on Olympus. Even Apollo would complain about the steady beat of his hammer sending it's proud, beautiful clangs reverberating across all of Olympus. Although he may have described the sound using a more characteristically colourful vocabulary. Despite their annoyance towards the methods of obtaining his masterpieces, once a work was completed, all would come to congratulate him on his latest success.
It was a simpler time. A time when he was an heir to Zeus' throne.
A time when he walked among the gods.
Long ago, before the ages of Man, I was born as the son of Zeus and Hera, the King and Queen of Olympus. Despite prophecies that I would be one of the most powerful gods born of the newest generation of Deities, I never displayed any abilities until I came of age two centuries following my birth. It began as explosions of fire that I had no control over, but eventually, with the aid of one of my father's friends I began to display control over my abilities and my parents finally began to grow fond of their son. My mentor stood by me and watched me flower into a god worthy of taking my father's place when the time would come.
This was not to last.
I was betrayed. When humans came into the world they were no different from the other animals that roamed the earth, however my mentor said that his thoughts about mankind lead him to believe that there was potential for them to one day stand side by side with us. Gods and Man, Rulers and Subjects. At the time I had thought nothing of these discussions we had, I merely brushed them off as philosophical debates which came to my mentor's mind since he had a part to play in the creation of humans in the first place. However my instincts were incorrect.
He began to tell me of his plans of gifting humans with some of his power so that they may be self aware as we are. He surmised that the only true difference between animals and ourselves is that we have enough of a difference in intellect to believe ourselves better than those creatures. What once was a discussion quickly became action. my mentor spread awareness to all of the humans, causing them to live much more complicated and chaotic lives with their newfound knowledge.
When Zeus had realized that humans had begun to change he was furious, stating that since he deemed them to be in a perfect state when they were entered into their habitat, any change in their behavior was a sin.
I could not bring myself to confess my mentor's involvement, since I knew that he was only attempting to aid the humans by changing them and he was truthfully one of the few people I was truly friends with.
That changed when he took a torch burning with my fire and hurled it to the earth, dirtying my once proud flames with the mud of the earth.
The humans found fire and did what they were bound to do; they attacked one another ceaselessly with it, scorching the earth wherever they went.
