Jade was nearly knocked off her feet as Cat hurtled past her, shrieking with joy. The exuberant red haired girl collided with a grinning Robbie, throwing her arms around his neck. He lifted her and spun on the spot, as they both kissed unabashedly.
"I missed you so much!" Cat squealed as Robbie set her down, her arms still linked around his shoulders.
"Aww, I missed you too baby." Robbie replied, nuzzling his nose against hers.
"I'm gonna puke." Jade growled, giving Beck a frustrated glance as she leaned against the locker next to his.
Her boyfriend shrugged, closed his locker, and joined her in leaning and observing Cat and Robbie's show of affection.
"You don't miss that?" He asked, stealing her coffee cup from her hand and taking a sip. She grabbed it back from him and gave him a playful shove.
"We were never like that." she said disdainfully, putting emphasis on the word 'never'.
"Oh no?" Beck asked, a mischievous look in his eyes, "Because if I'm not mistaken, I seem to remember finding one of your old notebooks on which you scribbled 'Mrs. Jade Oliver' about fifty times."
"That wasn't for you to see." Jade snapped, her cheeks burning with embarrassment as she glared into her coffee.
Beck grinned – she was adorable when she was mad.
"Well I did see it," he pressed on, "and I know that we went through that same crazy-whirlwind state of bliss that every new couple does."
"Ha, not like that." Jade muttered, shaking her head as Cat and Robbie continued canoodling their way down the hall to their classroom.
"Oh come on," Beck teased, "you can't tell me you don't miss how exciting and new everything was when we first started dating?" He gave her his best sad puppy dog face.
Jade bit back a smile. "Okay, maybe a little. But when they do it, it's just annoying."
Beck held up a hand. "Babe, you and me both know that we were just as into it as they are."
Furrowing her brow, Jade asked, "We 'were' into it? What do you mean? Are you not into it now?" As usual, she found herself jumping to conclusions all too quickly. "Are you saying you're not into me anymore?"
"What?" Beck laughed incredulously, "No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that we aren't like that anymore. Just let Cat and Robbie have their fun."
"Why, because soon they'll be like us? Stale and unexciting?" Jade stomped across the hallway and slammed her empty cup into the trashcan.
"If we're so unexciting, why would I do this?" Beck suddenly moved towards her and scooped Jade off her feet, so that he was holding her completely off the ground.
She squeaked with surprise grabbing onto his neck. "Beck, what are you doing? Put me down! People are staring!" she told him through gritted teeth.
"Let them stare," he said calmly, "and stop moving or I'll drop you."
A few bewildered students hurriedly passed them by as the bell signaled the start of classes.
"Baby," said Jade, trying to use all the patience she could muster, "I don't know if you realize this in your current state of mental instability, but we're going to be late to class if you don't put me down right now." Her patience broke for a moment as she slapped his shoulder for emphasis.
Beck shook his head, nonplussed. "Nah I'm not gonna do that. Cause we're not going to class."
"Oh no?" Jade asked sarcastically.
"No," he maintained, "we're going to go make out in the car until next period."
She couldn't honestly be mad at him after a suggestion like that, but being Jade, she could pretend as long as possible. Well, at least until their lips were locked and the windows were starting to steam up. At that point she couldn't help letting go of her little grudge, and admitting (at least inwardly) that being romantic and spontaneous wasn't altogether overrated.
