Mary Anne burst into tears as she watched her kitten chase a feather across the room. "He's so cute" she sobbed. Sophisticated Stacey snarled at her from behind her blonde perm whilst Claudia, dressed in the utmost of taste in lime green PVC trousers, an orange lace top and a green top hat, ignored the pair of them as she rooted around under her bed for a peanut butter sandwich. She eventually found one slightly squashed between two Nancy Drew books that were hidden under there.
Dawn entered the room at this point, almost tripping over her ankle length light blonde hair as she munched a tofu and bean curd bake. Jessi was just behind her pausing for a minute to look in the mirror to see if she was still black. She was. She heaved a sigh of relief.
The occupants of the room heard a strange growling noise coming from the corner. They all glanced over momentarily but couldn't see anything so returned to their thoughts as to how they were all the bestest of best friends forever and ever despite the fact that they were so different.
"Where's Mallory?" sniffed Mary Anne. "Kristy will be so cross if she is late for the meeting. She might even give her a l-l-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o-k…". Mary Anne dissolved into tears for the 37th time that afternoon. Sophisticated Stacey brushed back her sophisticated blonde perm, rolled her baby blue eyes to the ceiling and subtly shoved a chocolate bar into her mouth thinking that when Claudia noticed it had gone she would never blame Stacey. She was diabetic after all.
There was a sound on the on the stairs. A minute later, Mallory's teeth, as yet unaffected by years of orthodontia, entered the room. Ten seconds later the rest of her sturdy body followed. One of her 19 brothers and sisters had played join the dots with the freckles on her face so she looked even more unattractive than ever.
So they were just waiting for Kristy. Kristy who was never late. The growling noise continued in the corner. Stuffing a cream cake into her mouth, smearing cream all over her flawless complexion, Claudia went to investigate.
She found Kristy sitting under a box of art supplies. Kristy had always been the shortest girl in the class after all.
