~Chapter Start~
"Cloud, look out!" I yelled as Shinra's army gunned me down.
Angeal my former SOLDIER mentor once told me, "Zack, it is said when you die, your entire life flashes before your eyes. So, make sure you have no regrets. " I had scoffed and made a crappy joke at the time… And yet…
"Zack, wait up, man!" A voice called. It was my best mate back home in Gongaga "Zack, why ya wanna join Shinra an be one of them SOLDIERs. Ya could just stay here."
"I wanna be stronger! That and the girls help!"
A fight, almost in midair, above the Midgar slums. A strong blow knocked me out cold. I woke up in a patch of yellow flowers. A beautiful woman gazed at me with concern. "Heaven?" I asked in a quiet voice.
"Not quite. Church in the slums." She answered in a sweet voice
"An angel?" I asked looking at her in stunned awe.
"No. I'm Aerith." she giggled. "You fell from the sky. Scared me." She said with a sweet smile pointing at the hole in the roof.
A snowy moutaintop. Tseng and I trying to find new raw material to be SOLDIERs. "At least someone's keeping up." I teased in my usual tone.
"Well.. I'm a country boy too." he replied his tone quiet and formal.
"So you wanna be in SOLDIER? Why?" I asked simply we had been assigned as roommates as he was one of the few who could put up with my antics.
"I made a promise to a friend." Came the blonde's normal low tone.
"Cloud, look out!." I yelled as I frantically shoved my buddy out of the way only to be riddled with bullets myself. The pouring rain washed away my pooling blood. I coughed, my hands too weak to hold my buster sword anymore. "C-cloud… Take the s word… T-take it and protect her.." An image of a green-eyed girl clad in a white dress looking at me with concern flashed through my mind. "Pr-protect her where I failed… Good-bye my friend…" I breathed out, closing my eyes for my final and greatest adventure.
