This is a one shot. It takes place when they're in their mid-20s. OOC; Eli and Clare were once childhood friends in this.
Dear Clare,
I remember when we first met; curious children in a world we thought to be innocent. From the times when we spent at each others houses. Those late afternoons when we'd sit on your porch counting every black car passing your house. That Halloween when we dressed up as vampires; pretending to terrorize the neighborhood. Edward Cullen didn't have anything on us. When we stayed up watching Courage the Cowardly Dog. That show used to terrify you, remember? You'd hold my hand when it got too scary for you...
Or when we got our piggy banks together, counting to see if we had enough money to take you to Disney World since your parents always promised to take you but just to let you down instead. I remember when I told you I'd never let you down..
Til this day I still hear you're just as beautiful as you've always been. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me and my foolish ways. I know I always acted before thinking. I'm guilty in the many ways I ruined what special love we once had. You were the wind beneath my wings, you've always been...my only inspiration. Please remember me mistakenly; don't remember the pain I ever caused. Remember when our love seemed so invincible that even the angels above seemed jealous. The joys of life I spent with you... My wrongful actions cost me all I ever wanted - your love. God, how people lose touch with what's most important.
Our last words spoken...were not how I wished it would have happened. Our relationship was fleeting - because of me. I responded with anger... So I'm writing to you this letter in a final attempt to save what we once had. I want to leave this world with you knowing that the world may be chaotic and twisted sometimes but in the end it works out for the best. I was always this broken, frightened boy but you helped me in a way I thought wasn't possible. You deserve better...you'll always deserve better. I wish I had the chance to be the man who deserved an incredible woman like you...sadly I'm on borrowed time. I just want you to know that I'll always love you. Don't you ever forget that...don't you ever forget me...
Love, Eli
Tears rolled down her face as she silently sobbed.
She pulled out her phone and dialed Adam's number.
"Hello?" Adam said.
"H-Hi, umm it's Clare...I was wondering if you happen to have Eli's number?" She asked as her voice cracked.
Adam sighed, "...Eli...Eli has been battling cancer...he just died yesterday. I'm so sorry, Clare."
She quickly hung up as out from the papers she held, fell a photograph to the ground.
She knelt down to pick it up; it was of them as teens kissing.
An angel kissin' on a sinner was scribbled on the back.
