It was nearing night as the sound of a rifle going off could be heard along with a painful howl throughout the northern territorty of the once great Jasper Park. Funding for the park had dropped to an all time low and less was being done to make sure the park was still peaceful and serene. Because of low security and little to no wildlife and fishery officers, hunters and poachers made Jasper Park their new home doing as they pleased.
Upon hearing the rifle, a black wolf made haste to his pack with saddness and disdain. As he entered their territory he looked at the empty shell of what his pack had become. Mothers were fighting offspring for food if not actually eating them, best friends were were to the point of killing each other for scraps or anything that could be digested, and their leader ? Sulking at the base of his den pitying himself and the pack's situation.
" Hey Zack!"
The black wolf looked around and saw that a brown, skinny male was calling him.
" Edison wants to see you at his den. Pronto."
" Alright Eddy ."
Zack made his way to his leader's cave struggling half-way since the den was located at the top of dozens of giant stones that were starting to crumble. When he finally made it up, he was greeted by Edison's emotionless green eyes.
" Zack, how was the hunt?"
" A waste of time like always and from what I've heard while in the forest another wolf has fallen prey to them."
The old tan wolf sighed and began looking at the moon.
" Zack...I have a special request for you."
" Sir?"
" Leave...leave and never come back until everything has been restored to what it once was. Warn the other wolves in other territories of what's happening and make them move somewhere safe."
" But Edison!"
" No buts! This is a direct order. If the wolves you come in contact with don't listen and choose to stay leave them be. Become a lone wolf and create your own pack out of harm's way. Understand?"
Zack took a deep breath and exhaled.
" Yes sir...but what about you and the others ?"
" I'm afraid our time is done, we're too weak to travel and in such large numbers we'll be easy targets for the hunters. Throughout this whole ideal you've remained the strongest one of us all which is why I'm asking this of you."
" Y-Yes sir I won't let you down and I'll be sure to keep all of you in my memory."
At hearing this the old wolf smiled his last smile.
" Good I expect you to leave immidately and let this old wolf die in peace."
Zack then said his final goodbyes and began to start his journey into the night not knowing what was in store for him or the other packs that had yet to face what his pack had faced.
