A.N. :So, I'm reading The Book Thief for class and I'm really enjoying it, and I get to this part and an idea came to my head. This is the first time I'm writing anything not Harry Potter so go easy on me. I like the way this turned out actually... I feel like I actually managed to sound somewhat like the narrator of the actual book. ANYWHO. Thanks for reading:)

DISCLAIMER: I don't own The Book Theif, the characters or the beginning of this. Wish I did, but you know how little wishing does .-.

An excerpt from The Book Thief:

"Where are we going?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

She struggled to keep up. "Well, to tell you the truth- not really."

"I'm going to find him."
"Your papa?"

"Yes." He thought about it. "Actually, no. I think I'll find the Fuhrer instead."

Faster footsteps."Why?"

Rudy stopped. "Because I want to kill him." He even turned on the spot, to the rest of the world. "Did you hear that you bastards?" he shouted. "I want to kill the Fuhrer!"

)O(

Liesel pictured herself stepping forward and doing something, anything to make them both feel better.

"Rudy?"

Nothing but their breath.

Hers hitched.

One step was all it would take. She shook her head and clenched her eyes closed, much to her dismay allowing a few tears to escape.

* * * A LITTLE KNOWN FACT * * *

Liesel Meminger had more sadness

inside than she let on.

The boys arms went slack, his fists unclenched.

* * * ANOTHER LITTLE KNOWN FACT * * *

So did Rudy.

So he crossed the distance between them and hugged her.

Wrapped in his arms Liesel felt very broken, but at least she was warm.

She later wrote that this was a moment of great decision for her.

"You still want that kiss Saukerl?"

He couldn't see her face but he heard a smile on her voice.

A hand was over her chin then, her face raised so she was forced to look him in the eyes.

Judging, analyzing, he slowly nodded.

Cautiously, she moved forward.

Noses almost crashed together for a moment, but soon enough they sorted themselves out and gently pressed their lips together.

He smells like outside, she thought. Like nature.

When they broke apart and dropped their arms both pairs of eyes dropped to the ground.

"Well that was awkward." Rudy stated.

It was silent for a moment.

Liesel was the first one to laugh. Rudy was quick to follow.

Soon enough they were bent over laughing, grinning, gasping for breath.

* * * SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW * * *

Liesel Meminger and Rudy Steiner

both needed to laugh.

When they finally straightened out and caught their breath, it was Liesel who spoke.

"Let's go home." she sighed.

Rudy nodded, and with a grin took her hand as they walked back.
