Warning: Sensitive subjects. Mentioned death, blood.
He would never love her. He could never love her. He was Sweeney Todd, the demon barber, only purpose to rid the earth of the vermin and avenge his lost wife and his stolen daughter.
But maybe, in his own, messed up way, he did love her. And that was about to be proven.
Mrs. Lovett hadn't brought him breakfast, lunch, or dinner, something she had done every day since he got back, so it was unlikely she had forgotten. He was curious about what had happened, so he traveled down the stairs to her pie shop. When he walked in, it was empty, yet the shop itself was still open.
"Stupid woman." He said dryly. How was she supposed to make a living if she wasn't even working?
Without shame, he walked straight to her bedroom, not caring to knock. Where was the bloody woman? Not even the boy was here... Maybe she went to the market. Yes, that was it.
But then he saw it. Precious rubies on the ground, leading into the bathroom. Not that he would ever admit it, but he was slightly uneasy just thinking about what was on the other side of the door that was slightly cracked open.
After a moment of hesitation, he pushed the door open and stepped in. The room was a bloody mess, red covering the floor, even the walls.
There was Mrs. Lovett. She was not moving, but laid not-so-peacefully on the ground.
"Mrs. Lovett! I suggest you get up from the floor."
No movement.
"Hello?" He shook her shoulder and brushed her hair from her face.
But there it was. A red slit across her pale throat. And in her hand, one of his beautiful, silver friends.
"Mrs. Lovett!" He growled.
Mr. Todd knew she wasn't going to wake up. His precious friend was what ended her life. Now that he had lived with her, while she practically worshiped the ground he stood on, Sweeney couldn't imagine life without her.
Not because he loved her. No, he couldn't love, he was Sweeney Todd!
That was what he thought.
But in some dark way of his, Sweeney did. Benjamin Barker had loved beautiful Lucy and tiny Johanna. Sweeney Todd was a new man. No longer the naive man he used to be. Yes, this new man, Sweeney Todd loved Nellie Lovett, someone who could no longer love him back. 'I Love You'. Unspoken Words.
