"Oh, Alice!"
My sister looked at me with a glum expression on her face.
"Look! You've dirtied that frock of yours again!"
"I'm sorry." I answered, "Really!"
My sister smirked, "You can't sit still for a second can you, dear child."
"Oh, but you see the White Rabbit told me that – "
"Oh no, not the White Rabbit again! Hush child, and run along. Wash that dirty frock too!"
"I will!" I yelled as I ran down the hill to our home.
To tell the honest and whole truth, I had not been myself lately. It had been years since I last encountered the White Rabbit and all that other nonsense. I was growing dim towards the fact that it may never happen again! Every night I fell asleep, hoping only to dream of that wonderful place again but it never came.
After dinner I solemnly put my dirtied frock in the laundry room. My sister would clean it in the morning. I had an abundance of lovely dresses anyway. I picked out a lovely red one to wear tomorrow. It was one of my best dresses!
In the morning, I awoke to the sun streaming in through the window pane. It reminded me much of the looking glass. I allowed myself to drift back off to sleep because I just wasn't in the mood to get up.
"Alice, wake up! Please wake up, Alice! Alice! Please wake up, Alice! Alice! Alice! Alice!"
"What?" I groaned.
"Don't you dare talk to me like that!"
I recognised my sister's voice.
"Oh, I'm awfully sorry. I just dozed off."
"Yes, well look outside!"
I jumped from my bed and stared out of the window. Outside I could see a wind blowing, but nothing more than that.
"I only see a wind! What's there more to look at?"
"Oh, my dear, can't you see!"
I took another look.
"No, sister."
"Look!" she pointed out the window to a bush, quivering as if it trembled from the cold.
I looked to where she was pointing but nothing happened.
"No, I see nothing sister – "
Just as I spoke, the bush was lifted up by its roots and pulled towards the sky.
"Where did it go?"
As if in answer my sister opened the window and looked upwards. Up above our small house was a whirlwind, possibly the strongest to ever hit our house!
"Oh, sister! What shall we do?"
"Stay inside. Now what about having a nice history lesson while this blows over?"
There was something trembling in her voice, I could tell. I just couldn't put my finger on it.
"Okay," I smiled back.
I didn't generally enjoy her history lessons, but I had nothing better to abide my time by so I joined her with her glossy text books after getting into my red frock.
