[A/n:] Hello again! Wow, a NON-HUMOR FIC!!! I've done those before, but not for a long time...but it won't be a habit! I'll still make y'all laugh, never fear! But here is a little tidbit of angst you to swallow...

***

"Within these walls, we will outlast them."

The words of King Théoden ring through my mind as I look upon the approaching enemy. Their numbers are vast, their purpose to kill. The lights from their torches glitter so distantly, but still too near for comfort. We don't have nearly enough men. A large brigade of my kinsmen had shown up, proud and valiant, but we still lacked.

Our numbers are small. But our courage is far greater.

I shudder as the rain comes down in sheets. Not from the cold, but in apprehension. I do not fear battle, but this is not our greatest enemy.

The worse is yet to come.

Ever closer, the army advances. I can now hear the roars of the Uruks. Their hearts are as hard as the stone we stand upon. Their formation reminds me of a vast ocean, stretching beyond comprehension in the night. A sea of hate.

I grip my bow. The bow that has traveled with me since we left Lórien. How distant that beautiful land seems, and the peace that seemed to flow from it. But not so far, now that Haldir and his followers were beside us, bringing along a fraction of that serenity.

Aragorn shouts behind us to not give mercy to those demons before us. An Uruk atop a boulder roars loudly, as if to testify to that statement.

I am ready.

Within these walls, an alliance has been renewed.

Within these walls, acts of courage will be committed.

Within these walls, the fate of a nation will be decided.
