Title: The Story of Us

Pairing: Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles

Genre: Romance/ Angst

Rating: M for later chapters

Disclaimer: I do not own Rizzoli and Isles. I write for fun and as a extension of my own reality.

Author's Note: Sorry for the long absence from writing, had to get my career off the ground and moved into a house. This fic is mostly AU, so bare with me for a bit while I develop each character. Hopefully I will have time to complete this fic before things get crazy again. Enjoy and as always reviews are much appreciated.

Early January

Maura Isles had always been a little bit awkward and independent. She had to be since she basically raised herself as a child because her parents were so busy. It is this independence that compelled her to apply attend medical school and the awkwardness is what led her to become a pathologist. Even though she has a medical degree and would like to work as a medical examiner for BPD, there has not been an opening for years. The current ME, Dr. Pike, refuses to retire. So, in order to get her foot in the door at BPD, Maura applied to be a police officer. She had been waiting almost a year to get the letter she received in the mail today. Today she was offered employment with BPD. Her new and exciting career starts with academy orientation on Friday and the first day of the academy is the following Monday.

"Hey babe, I got the job." Maura tells her girlfriend as she enters their small apartment in South Boston.

"That's fantastic. I'm happy for you. We can go out and have dinner to celebrate after I get this report finished for the Globe." Maura knows that the report will not be finished in time to go out and celebrate just like always. Last October they were supposed to go to a bed and breakfast to celebrate their one year anniversary, but that too fell through because her girlfriend received a promotion at the Globe. They went out with co-workers instead.

"Sounds good, I will just go get cleaned up so you can concentrate on your report."

Maura loves her girlfriend but would like to go do more then just sit around the apartment. She wants adventure and excitement in her life. The police department would be that change she needs to find that excitement.

Late January

Maura is all set to by the time the Friday of orientation rolls around. She has been fitted for uniforms and body armor. She has already broke in her handcuffs with on her girlfriend a few nights ago. Maura reaches the gate leading to the campus grounds where she will attend class for the next four months.

"Oh that is a very nice sweater vest that you are wearing, it compliments your skin tone very nicely." Maura chats up the man at the gate.

The man just grunts and tells her where to go to get to the room she needs.

"Well that was rather rude. I was just giving him a compliment. It's not often that you see such a fit handsome man dressed in a sweater vest." Talking to herself as she parks her Honda Prius.

Maura takes a seat near the back of the classroom and far from the door so she can watch as people walked in. That's when she first saw her. Her confidence was oozing out of her, almost cocky. Her dark hair and piercing brown eyes held her attention. She was tall and had the body of an athlete. The jeans she wore hugged her curves and made Maura want to just get to know this mysterious woman.

That's when the instructors walked in and introduced themselves to the class. Come to find out the man at the gate is the director of the academy, no wonder he just grunted at her compliment.

As orientation came to an end, Maura tried to catch up with the woman, but she slipped out before Maura got the chance to make an introduction.

"I guess I shall have to wait until class on Monday to meet this woman." Maura talks to herself on the drive home. This was going to be one long weekend.
