AN: Please review! I wrote this late at night on a whim, keep in mind this is slightly different from the real ending of the series, this is if Yugi could have kept his puzzle.

His Yami had gone back to where he originated, his spirit had left the puzzle.

And Yugi was now alone.

He no longer had two soul rooms; the hallway that once connected the two had disappeared. Only Yugi's once happy room full of toys was left in tatters. He no longer had to share his body; he had to endure everything without his partner. He could no longer speak to his other self or ask for his opinion. He was his own person again.

And instead of feeling whole, Yugi was broken.

The millennium puzzle was now empty, and the gold it was made out of seemed to have grown colder than ever. It was just a shiny artifact now. Though it was now just a reminder of days that have gone by, the boy still wore it around his neck well aware his precious Yami was no longer inside.

Every day when he departed from school and left his friends, Yugi went straight home and locked himself in his small room at hours at a time.

There he would slide down the wall and slump into a little ball, clutching the puzzle so tight to his chest that it would leave angry red indentations from its sharp corners for days to come.

Sobs would violently rock Yugi's small body as sadness washed through him like a thick venomous current.

"Yami, I—I miss you so much." Yugi choked out his words as he blinked out the tears from his swollen eyes.

As Yugi had cried until no more tears could come, he closed his eyes and drifted into a semi- conscious state. Hands still tightly gripped around the puzzle, he could almost envision his Yami by his side once more. Mentally and emotinally shattered, he allowed himself to indulge in his hallucination.

...

Hot breath tickled Yugi's ear as a deep, velvety voice whispered, "Aibou, what's gotten you so upset?"

Yugi kept his eyes firmly shut, willing his other self to stay. A large hand threaded itself through Yugi's hair soothingly, "I'm always be here for you, Yugi. How could I leave?" Yami's hand lightly traveled down Yugi's frail chest and hovered warmly over his beating heart. Yugi's chest heaved up and down in an attempt to keep his breathing steady.

"It's not the same, Yami." Yugi sniffled as tears once again welled in his eyes and stung him, "I can't feel your presence, I can't hear your voice—."

Yami's lips crashed down on Yugi's to silence him. Yugi's breath hitched, and then in a wild frenzy, the boy kissed the pharaoh back with the utmost passion. The fervor was returned as the kiss grew deeper. Yami shifted so that he hovered over his Aibou as he coiled both his arms around Yugi to pull him tighter against his body.

Yugi's heart tripped over itself as his pulse hammered in his ears, his Yami was smothering him and Yugi couldn't get enough of it. Yugi had to have more—he had to see the pharaoh again.

In his desperate state, Yugi opened his clouded amethyst eyes.

Immediately, the feel of his other half against him ceased.

The Pharaoh was nowhere in sight.

A heart wrenching wail ripped its way from Yugi's scratchy throat. It was only his imagination playing tricks on him again. His Yami was never there.

The boy pulled the millennium puzzle from his embrace and held it so that he could stare into the one Egyptian eye, hoping his plea would be heard, although knowing that it would fall on deaf ears.

"Pharaoh," Yugi whispered hoarsely as he tried to dig his nails into the item's surface, "I'd do anything to have you back."
