"He knew," mumbled Jack.

Sam shook her head. "There's just no way, sir. We were so careful."

"He winked at me, Carter!"

"That doesn't mean anything."

"It does with him, and you know it."

"True. This has become a quite a challenge."

"Yeah, and we never win."

Jack and Sam both sighed and grew quiet. A moment later, a new voice entered the argument.

"I think it's time you faced the obvious, Colonel," said General Hammond.

"And what might that be, sir?" answered Jack. "That he really is smarter than me?"

Hammond chuckled. "I'm not qualified to decide that. But I am sure of one thing. You've got a mole."

Jack shook his head. "No way."

Sam agreed. "No, sir. We didn't tell anyone except Teal'c and Janet, and they wouldn't talk. Not about this. They know it's too important."

Hammond shrugged. "I know it's hard to accept, and I'm not saying it is anyone on your team, Jack. I'm saying someone at the SGC is compromised."

Across the room, Daniel opened his birthday gift from Jack and waved a thanks to him while wearing a truly wicked grin.

Jack just glared back, then grumbled under his breath as he took a long pull on his beer.

"Surprise party, my ass."

Sam heard him and snorted into her own beer. "Yeah, right," she said. "Well, you know what they say, sir."

"What's that?"

"There's always next year."
