This is my first fanfic, written for My Dear Professor McGonagall's Sibling Rivalry Competition. I hope you like it and please review!
Charlie sat down at the Gryffindor table and stared moodily at Bill's glass of pumpkin juice, as pink confetti drifted into his hair. It was Valentine's Day, in his first year. The first year he wasn't at home, getting a pink breakfast from his mother and teasing Percy about his imaginary girlfriend. The first year he wasn't joining his siblings in groaning when their parents kissed. The first year... It had been the first year for a lot of things.
But his amazing older brother Bill had been there the whole time, to help him get used to everything. He had been there to help with his first homework, first test, and first Halloween at Hogwarts. For all of first term, Bill would do anything to give his little brother a helping hand.
But things were different now. They had gone home for Christmas, and had come back to what was, for Charlie, a different world. Classes were harder; it was cold and dark in the castle; and worst of all, Bill had a new girlfriend. He was busy all the time now, between her and his difficult classes. He had, it seemed, forgotten about Charlie. Charlie, though he wouldn't admit it, was sad and lonely and wanted his brother back. So on this day, the first holiday he was spending at Hogwarts without his brother, he was miserable. It was even worse than those two years that Bill was off at Hogwarts without him- now, he was so close yet so far away.
Charlie continued to moodily stare at Bill's cup. He wanted to be sitting there next to Bill, instead of her. He didn't want to see him giving her chocolate, kissing her softly on the cheek, making her laugh by transfiguring her apple into a little pink butterfly. As it fluttered away, Bill looked around. Charlie's heart swelled, Bill remembered! He had brought chocolate for him, like Mum always did!
"Oi, Charlie! Are you the one freezing my pumpkin juice?" He laughed. Charlie's heart sank, but he faked a smile. "Yeah, sorry" he said. But Bill had already turned back towards his girlfriend.
Charlie sighed again as he turned back towards his plate.
"He has to break up with her eventually..." he thought. "Until then... well I'll find something to do."
