Lumos

C / Louise Lupin, '01

Lumos.

Light. It's light. The light is your friend, the angel from heaven above descending down upon you, to lift you from your fallen abyss of darkness, to take you from the moon's capturing hold.

But the light isn't always your friend. Sometimes the light is your grim reaper; the cloaked figure in the back of your mind when you glare at the moon with your fiery red-gold eyes, its silky silvery gaze making you seize, convulse, and become somebody else.

Who is this somebody else that the moon turns you into? Is he a creature of the night, a wolf-like creature that haunts your mind, the very one you see when you gaze upon your reflection in a mirror of truth? Will he seize your neck with his silvery teeth, saliva and blood splattering everywhere, shaking you like a rag doll until you give in to his existence?

Or, will you fight, until the light of day comes back to rescue you?

What of the nights that lead to your transformations? Do you huddle under your blankets and tremble, as the wolves of your mind prowl around the room, ready to devour you at any second? Or do you hold your chin high and fixate your glare, silently reminding them that once a month you are their brother?

On the nights the night claims you as her brethren, do you shy from the wind with its chilling breath, the trees with their looming arms, and your own true self? Your self, the self that runs free on the nights of the full moon, granted freedom but still captive of the moon?

Do you flee from your true self? Or do you face it like the wolf you are, proud and strong, knowing that the light of day will always be there to grant you reassurance?

Disclaimer: Remus Lupin is copyright the Queen of the Harryverse, the honourable JK Rowling. One of the inspirations for this fic was a fic called 'Nox', which I also do not owe claim to. Hopefully the author won't have me hung from plagiarising. :)

Feedback would be very, very much appreciate. I'd love to know what people think of my work, even if it's bad . . . but if it *is* bad, my werewolf side can always deal with it/you. ;) Merci beaucoup. ~LL
