It Can't Stay This Way

They knew that when this all started it could never lead anywhere but a few stolen kisses.

But somehow those few stolen kisses had lead somewhere they weren't prepared to go.

It was after midnight and he was walking in the shadows to avoid being seen. If anyone found

out about them that could be the end of everything. Reaching their tree by the lake he stood against

the trunk waiting impatiently for her to show. Before long he saw the familiar white blonde hair and when

she was close enough he pulled her in for a kiss.

Deep down they knew what they were doing was forbidden given their family, since they were family. Being seventeen they didn't really care for what others told them, it only mattered what they wanted for

the moment. "Narcissa." he murmured against her cheek. That seemed to be the thing to say to bring her

back to reality. She had asked him to meet her there and he knew there was probably something she wanted. Usually their meetings were random to prevent people from discovering what they were doing. "Sirius it can't stay this way." she said softly. Her head was resting against his chest listening to his heartbeat.

Putting his arms around her he sighed knowing that tonight could very well be the end of everything they had. Just not right at this moment. "I know it can't but it can be put off a little while longer." He said holding her close. If this was going to be their last night together he wanted to make the best of it and use every excuse to hold her close to him. A smile formed on his face as he remembered something Narcissa always loved to do even when they were young. "Dance with me?" he asked. As she looked up at him he knew that she couldn't refuse. Taking her hand into his he began to dance with her slowly hoping that this night would never end. There was no music playing but that mattered very little to them. After what seemed like ages passed they finally quit dancing and Sirius knew that this was indeed the end of everything that made him really happy.

He sat with her underneath the tree and waited for her to speak first. "I'm getting married to Lucius after graduation and I think it's best we stop meeting like this. It's painful enough already." She said. Looking down at her hands she waited for him to say something, anything to make her feel better but even she knew that nothing in the world could make this any easier. Deciding now would be the best time if any time were good for Narcissa to leave. Saying goodbye would get harder the longer they both prolonged it. Kissing her forehead he gave her one last smile. Helping her to her feet he held on to her. "I love you Sirius but this is for the best. My parents would never let us be happy." She said. With one last look she hurried away from him and disappeared from his sight. She had come here to do one of the most painful things she might ever have to do in her life.

With one little sentence his whole world seemed to fall apart in front of him. A while later he made his way back up to the castle knowing that Narcissa would be back to her common room by now. "I love you too Narcissa." He whispered before entering the castle. It had finally come to an end but when it began they both knew it couldn't stay that way.

AN: This started out as a fanfiction duel on a site I belong too. This will most likely be a oneshot unless someone wants me to continue this fic.
