"Hey! Isn't that a shrine? That's pretty huge for a shrine! Do you think they have any Ramen in this village? If they don't I'm gonna starve for sure!" a overzealous blonde boy shouted. His movements were laced with energy and he was grinning in expectation.
His elder companion, a man with silver colored hair, made a noncommittal sound and buried his nose further in the book he was reading.

Naruto ran forwards, only to stop a few metres away to wait for his teacher. His smile disappeared and was replaced with a scowl, "Hurry up Kaka-sensei!"
Kakashi turned another page, "Patience is the key to success, Naruto."
The student huffed and crossed his arms.
Kakashi walked past him, not paying any attention to the glare the blonde was shooting at him. The smile that formed on his lips was hidden by a book and his ever-present mask.
When Kakashi was a good distance away, Naruto ran after him, "Wait for me Kaka-sensei!"
"… First you tell me I need to be faster, and now you want me to slow down? Make up your mind before you ask for something." – Yes, teaching his students was so much fun – 'They're always so cute when they're annoyed…'
Kakashi was sure Naruto was trying to burn a hole in him by just glaring at him.

As the weird duo arrived at the gates of the small village, the gates were thrown wide open.
"Get Keichii-sama! The Shinobi have arrived!"

Naruto smiled. He was on a very important (C-ranked) mission, with just Kakashi-sensei. Which practically meant that that bastard of a Sasuke wasn't good enough to come, which meant only Naruto was awesome enough to complete this mission.
That and the first thing he noticed when he stepped first into the village was a Ramen-stand that looked a lot like the Ichiraku-Ramen restaurant at home.

As a friendly guide – a cute girl that couldn't stop touching Naruto's hair ("It's like the sun! And those lines on your face, it's so sweet!"), had led them to the inn they would be staying at for the next days, the blond boy fell down on the tatami-mat in their room and laughed.
"This place looks awesome!"
His mentor dropped his backpack and sat down on one of the stools, still engrossed in his annoyingly bright colored book.
Naruto sat up, and questioningly he asked, "Kakashi-sensei, what was our mission again? I think I kinda forgot…" he sheepishly scratched the back of his head as he said that.
With an exasperated sigh, the silver haired teacher put down his book and slouched on his seat, "You forgot the mission-objection? Are you sure you're ready for this?"
Naruto opened his mouth to protest.
"Anyway, we – you – are supposed to get a scroll and deliver it to Konohagakure. We'll be staying in this village for quite a while because the client want to deem us worthy before he hands us the scroll. That means, no pranking or talking back to your superior" me "or anyone else for that matter." Kakashi finished.
Naruto flopped back on his back. He smiled contently, the mission was in his very own hands.

After a while, soft snores could be heard in the room. Sprawled out on the floor laid the blond boy. He was drooling a little – he was fast asleep.
Kakashi was sitting behind a small desk. He leaned back into the wooden chair.
He remembered the words of the Godaime precisely as he watched Naruto.

"Just keep an eye on him. Make sure he doesn't get himself into any trouble. Don't get into any trouble yourself. Am I clear, Hatake?"
"Yes, all is clear."
"You are dismissed… – Use the DOOR!"

Kakashi smiled. This mission was easy – everything was going to be alright.
