Another short Snape/Lily fic... I just love them!

"Oooo, little Lily's off to see her boyfriend!" Sirius called as Lily picked up her bag and made for the portrait hole.

"He isn't my boyfriend!" She protested. She was usually above answering back, but this joke was getting old fast.

"Ha, yeah right. He luuuuurves you!" Sirius yelled back in the blunt manner of second year boys.

"We're just friends!" She told him, hands on hips.

"You sure he feels the same way?" Sirius teased, waggling his eyebrows.

Lily frowned, upset that she didn't know how to answer. Surely Sev felt the same way she did...

Sirius had been distracted already, saving her a come-back. With a snort at his low attention span Lily left. She would find Sev and ask him. Even though she was sure, she still wanted to clear things up.

"Hey Sev!" She called, spotting him under a tree, reading.

"Lily!" his face lit up as she ran across the grass, red hair shining.

"How are you Sev?"

"I'm okay," He said, offhand when it came to his own well being. Then he paused to study her face. He could always tell what she was thinking.

"What's wrong?" He asked. Lily grimaced.

"That Sirius Black," She paused as Severus' face darkened. She decided ask him her question outright.

"We're just friends right Sev? Tell the truth." He turned a little pink.

"The truth?" He asked, going redder under her intense green-eyed stare. "I-I thought we m-might be a bit more then-"

Lily laughed suddenly.

"Oh, sorry, I meant Best friends! Don't look so worried, of course we're best friends." She leaned forward and gave him a quick hug.

Over her shoulder Severus' face fell.

"Yeah," He echoed "Best friends."

"And that's all?" Her huge eyes were serious again.

"That's all." He told his clasped hands.

Lily laughed again.

"Oh, Sev you're so serious. I knew you'd feel the same!" He forced himself to smile. "Let's go to the library then."

Obediently he followed. He would have followed her anywhere of course.

His best friend Lily...

Severus let out a huge sigh.
