"And He Was Gone.."
Staring at his grave, she wiped a couple of tears off her cheeks.
Twelve years. It had been twelve years since he died but she had not forgotten him. He was forever in her heart, a dull ache in her chest. He had left her alone in this world, leaving her with nothing of what he had promised her but a burning hole in her heart.
Why did he have to leave her? Everything he had promised her-their dreams of a life together-were shattered. They were buried along with him on 12th June, 2002. Oh why on earth had he gone and acted so rashly.
32 year old Hiromi Tatibana stared at her beloved's grave and choked back a sob. Oh how she missed him. They had only been dating for a year-it had taken a year for them to realize that they were in love with each other. So in love that Kai had proposed to her.
A love so strong wasn't meant to end. So why? Why had he left her? why had he left her all alone to face life's challenges? Why had he gone away like her parents? He had promised to always protect her.
"Why?" she whispered, a single tear making its way down her cheek, "Why?"
Hiromi was currently engaged to Takao. But she didn't want to be. She wanted to be with him. Him and only him. He was supposed to be her one and only. So why wasn't he standing next to her? Why was he just a lifeless body buried in mud?
She choked out a strangled sob. He was her phoenix-he was supposed to be there for her forever-but forever ended-along with their love. All buried down in the ground.
"Hiromi?" a voice floated in the air. She froze. That voice. It could only be-
"Hello?" she whispered looking around.
"You can't see me Hiromi-chan." he said sadly, "But I'm always here for you-looking after you. Who do you think was the one who told Takao to go to your house the night you tried to kill yourself? Who do you think told Takao to ask you out when you were alone? Who sent him to your house the night that creep Garland broke in?" She could almost see him smiling bitterly. "It was me Hiromi. I've always been there."
"Takao…knows….you…" she couldn't continue the rest. A small sad chuckle filled her ears.
"Of course not. He merely thinks it was an act out of impulse, his sixth sense. But it has always been me. And I want you to be happy. And if forgetting me is what it takes for you to find peace then I want you to forget about me."
"NEVER!" she screamed, "I will never ever forget about you. I don't love him like I loved you. I don't love anyone-I loved you."
"But you will learn to love him. Hiromi, it is I who stands beside you right now. Not him. It is I who orders you to fall in love again. I need you to be happy. Only then will I find inner peace."
"But-"
"No buts. Love him as you have loved me." Hiromi could feel his voice fading away-his presence slipping away into the darkness.
"No, don't leave!" she cried. Something brushed against her lips, making her eyes go wide.
"I love you Hiromi-chan…..forever." Then he was gone. Just gone.
"Hiromi?" came a gentle voice from behind her. She turned to see Takao standing there with a bouquet of roses.
"I didn't know what to get." he said, shifting from one foot to another. Hiromi lowered he eyes and went over to him, slipping her hand in his.
"Let's go home." She whispered quietly, "The eternal phoenix…is gone." Together, hand in hand, the couple walked away from the grave.
"Kai Hiwatari
May his soul be free."
Hibisha: Well.
TOBF: I hate you.
Hibisha: I love you too.
