The Truth Of the Matter.
Derek had always known how gorgeous his genius was.
The first time he had seen the younger man he had been entranced by the high cheekbones and long slender limbs.
Spending time with Spencer had shown him the strength within the frail seeming body, the beauty of his incredible mind and the innocence of his spirit, somehow retained despite all odds.
It was a lethal combination and Derek had soon succumbed, giving his heart into the keeping of the pretty boy.
Over the years they had known one another Spencer has grown. The awkward youthful body has given way to that a graceful man. His self confidence has increased.
With the assistance (or interference according to Spencer) of JJ and Penelope his style had developed from "nerd clothing chosen by blind mother" to "geek chic" without loosing Spencer's unique quirkiness.
More and more, other people are seeing what Derek always has; the devastating beauty that is his lover.
It irritates him.
Not that other people finding his partner attractive; as far as Derek is concerned they can look all they want at what they cannot have, so long as they don't try to touch.
No, what irritates him is that they only see Spencer in the abstract. To them he is a prize, a pretty face or hot body to be acquired, used, flattered.
They think that beauty is a product of Spencer's looks, not Spencer's soul.
Derek Morgan knows better.
