The Realization
"And shepherds, we shall be, for thee, my lord, for thee,"
The sound of a gun cocking distracted Murphy and Conner as they knelt before Rocco's lifeless body, saying the prayer that had been passed down through their family. Pulling out their guns, they turned quickly and aimed at the man who had tried to kill them, and had also shot off Rocco's finger. He put the gun he had drawn back into the holster and stepped forward, continuing the prayer were they had left it.
Conner looked at the man, recognition shining in his blue eyes and idolization showing on his bloodied face. Murphy watched the man, with distrust as they both un-cocked their guns and dropped their arms to their sides.
Who the fuck does he think he is? Murphy thought to himself, despising the look on his twin brother's face. What the hell is he doing here? How does he know our prayer? How can Conner so easily accept him? Thoughts raced through Murphy's head as he watched this man come closer. He finished the prayer and rested his hands on both the boys' faces. He looked down at them, smiling with pride. Murphy knew who this man was. He knew who he was to them, but despite knowing what he did, he couldn't help but despise the man before him. He despised him because he left them and their ma so long ago. Left them alone with only each other. How could he think he could just come and take away the only thing he'd ever known and loved without any doubts? He knew this man was his and Conner's father, but in that moment there was no hatred so pure than the hatred Murphy felt for this man who was taking away all he had in the world. Taking away his twin brother.
