Original Series: Avatar: The Last Air Bender.
Story Title: Faith.
Summary: Because they're never going to leave, because they'll be here forever, because they'll be forgotten. Mai-centric. Maiko.
Character/s: Mai, Ty Lee and Kyoshi Warriors.
Mai sits perfectly still in the prison as she watches Ty Lee socialise with the Kyoshi warriors, her face kept in a perfectly blank, if not bored, expression.
Mai starts to think that maybe it isn't all for nothing, maybe, at the very least, she has helped her friend find a more suitable place in the world. For a moment her mouth twitches towards a smile but the thought of never leaving stops it.
She frowns and the idea that her friend has a place just seems to make everything worse, because they're never going to leave, because they'll be here forever, because they'll be forgotten.
Mai doesn't try to be optimistic, she doesn't hope, she doesn't dream, but that doesn't mean that Mai regrets what she did, because Mai has faith and that's all she ever needs to get by.
Author's Note: Maiko-ish because of the last line. Mai has faith in Zuko, basically. That's also why the title is faith.
