Martha sat at the counter and began replaying the day in her head over and over again, it had obviously not gone well. She had to go and cry because Perry had accidentally worn Jonathon's jacket, she still loved Jonathon but come on it was a jacket.
"It was his jacket." Martha whispered to herself as she took a sip of wine.
She slowly stood up and thought about how Perry was looking for her, well not her but The Red Queen and what the hell was she going to do when Perry found out. Light tears ran down her face causing her to not hear the door open as Perry walked in. He stopped and set down his stuff and saw Martha with back to him, he noticed though that her shoulders were shaking which meant she was crying. Slowly Perry walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, which startled Martha.
"It's just me." Perry stated which calmed Martha.
"Perry, you love me right?"
"You know I do." Perry said as he turned her towards him.
"Would you still love me even if I had done things?" Martha asked with panic lacing her voice.
"Of course, what things are you talking about?" The journalist in him was on full alert.
"Nothing, I just…I'm sorry its been a long day and dinner didn't go as planned and…"
"Hey, dinner may not have been as planned but at least you are here seeing your son and Lois and your with me. Besides I believe we are the only ones here so…." Perry grinned causing Martha to laugh and get on her tip toes and kiss him. It had been so long since she was this happy, the two made their way upstairs and as they went into Martha's old room all of Martha's fears went away as she got swept up in the moment. The next morning Martha heard Perry answer his cell phone and mention Nairobi, Martha loved Perry but right now Perry needed to be somewhere that was far away from what was about to come.
The couple kissed at the door as Perry left to go catch his plane, the whole time all he told her was that a big story was waiting for him.. Martha smiled and told him she would be in Washington waiting and that she expected a phone call everyday. As he went into the taxi and it pulled away tears began to go down her face, she loved him but love was not something she could have right now. Martha began to make muffins which she realized she always did when a problem was going on in her life.
Plane rides weren't Martha's favorite thing but especially today when she knew that there was a chance could be gone and she would never see him again. Martha's apartment seemed empty without Perry and without her message machine not blinking with any calls, all Martha could do was lay on her coach and cry until Perry walked through the door. If only she had been honest that night and didn't send him away, if only.
