Senna held the newborn in her almost trembling arms, feeling like a new mother again, but also feeling like the grandmother she was.

She sank into the hospital chair, completely enamored with the newest member to their family.

"He's so handsome, Mako. He's got your eyes!" Senna cooed, tracing the very much awake babe's face. He had a little slope of a nose and tiny lips, both Korra's features. But, his eyes and cheeks are very much Mako's.

Mako chuckled and leaned back into his very uncomfortable chair. One he could almost call home, seeing as he had been sitting there for well over 20 hours. "They're actually a little darker, like my mothers."

Cooing more at the little boy, she shifted him so she cuddled him closer. She kissed his little forehead and giggled at the sounds he made, tiny fingers clenching in the air.

She was going to spoil this little one so much, she already knew it.

"Have your parents come to see him yet?" Senna asked, her eyes still glued to her grandson.

Mako shifted in his seat, clearing his throat. After a few moments of uncomfortable silence and receiving no answer, Senna looked up expectantly.

A pained expression flooded her son-in-law's face. "Mako?"

"They passed away," he gritted out, his eyes focused on his son.

Senna pouted. "Oh, I'm sorry. Recently?"

He shook his head. "No.. about… Fourteen years ago, I think."

Senna mouth dropped open. "You were only a child?"

He nodded, clearing his throat again. "They were murdered by a firebender when I was eight, so Bolin and I were on our own until our mid-teens."

"Oh, Mako," Senna whispered. "I had no idea."

Mako shrugged. "It's something in my past now," he muttered, trying to inconspicuously rub his eyes from the tears that threatened to fall. "I'm just going to keep moving forward and make my sons childhood the happiest it can be, and keep him safe. I don't want him to grow up like Bo and I did, you know?"

Mako himself was slightly shocked at how he relayed this information to his mother-in-law. The words had tumbled out of his mouth, and he felt his cheeks warming as well as his eyes tearing.

As he was trying to keep his composure, Senna had him wrapped in a tight hug. His son was gently cradled in her arm and against Mako's stomach, while her other arm was wrapped around his broad shoulders.

"I know you'll be the best dad you can be," she whispered. "If you ever need advice or help or anything, you can come to me or Tonraq. Okay?"

He nodded stiffly, still frozen in his place. His body then trembled, but he didn't want to show weakness. He had to stay strong for his son, and now was a good time to start.

"Your parents would be so proud of you," she told him. "They would be amazed at how you raised your brother, got an amazing job, and had a beautiful son with someone you love so much. And they're watching you, remember that."

At that point, his tears were silently falling blotting onto her blue dress. The words had impacted him more than he, nor she, would have thought.

"Thank you," he whispered. When they pulled away, she gave him the warmest smile he had received in a long time.

He felt as if he had a mother again. Well- he did have a mother again. He knew he did.

He looked down at his baby boy, his small eyes dropping shut, snuggled in his grandmothers warmth. Mako placed a hand on the top of his sons head, and a whispered again.

"Thank you."

A/N: Senna & Mako time! I feel like she would love Mako to DEATH and Tonraq would too, naturally, but wouldn't be as affectionate. After all, he has appearances he needs to keep up. Can't be canoodling with his daughters husband.
