Peeta's POV:
This has always been my wife's favorite time of day.
Me?
Over a period of timeā¦. It's become mine too.
As I see my son and daughter playing and laughing with innocent glee in the last light of the day, I wish the moments such as these would never come to an end. But alas, Willow will not always be 7 and Rye will only be 4 once. So while they are at this young age and are still eager to learn new things, I will teach them all that I can.
Once Katniss and I have spread out the blanket on the ground and gotten in a comfortable position, I call our children over to eat our picnic dinner.
"Daddy, what makes sunsets so pretty?" Willow asks me as she tries to get her mouth around an enormous sandwich.
Trying not to laugh at her frustrated expression that matches Katniss' scowl so well, I try and remember how my father worded it when he told me. I was just about Willow's age.
"Do you know how when you and I finger paint together we take the colors, and we put them wherever our fingers lead them? Just one stroke, one gentle brush after another and the canvas is full of our creation. Then we come and show it to your mommy and your brother and give them the gift of our work for free, if they want it. Well, that's how it is with the sunset! Our Father paints the sky with His finger and guides the clouds and the colors where He wants them to be. Then when He's finished, He presents the finished masterpiece to us as a gift for us to enjoy, for free!
And just like how your mommy and brother tell us how good our painting is and thanks us for the present, that's what we're supposed to do with the sunset! It's too amazing of a gift for us not to be thankful for, Isn't it princess?"
"Oh yes daddy! It's SOO pretty! Can you teach me to paint like God does daddy?"
Willow asks earnestly.
"No baby, Only God can paint as He does. But that's just another thing that makes it so special: There is only one original."
THE END
"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." - Ephesians 2:10
