She wandered, alone in the cold, dark forest

Her footsteps led her around in a series of circles, each one more tangled than the last

Frigid winds whipped her body as she struggled along, eyes dull and downcast

Each step was a chore, wearing down the dark haired girl without respite

Voices echoes in her ears, throwing insults and other words of abuse

They lingered as a chorus, surrounding her thin form

Dark tendrils wrapped around her mind, squeezing it, constricting it

A maze of paths befuddled her, for each turn melted into the next

She called for help, but all she got back were echoes

Echoes that taunted her openly, mockingly whispered words of reassurance into her ear

She found what she needed at last- a gun

The shot rang out in the cold, black forest, but no one came

Crimson streams threaded across the earth, but no one came

Her breathing became a demanding chore, dragging out the agony she deserved to feel

Still, no one came

Her eyes welled with tears, even though death was now inevitable

No one came

The breaths became the sepulchral chime of her death knell, sounding throughout the barren expanse

No one came

Blackness clouded her vision

Dots seared across her sight

The ebb and flow of her blood fleeing from her body was the last warning

Three, two, one

Zero

No one came, and the girl died in the darkness there
