"-more Death Eaters arrived-and then Snape-and Snape did it. The Avada Kedavra." Harry couldn't go on. He was in the hospital room housing Bill's mangled, unconscious body.

Madame Pomfrey burst into tears. Nobody paid her any attention except for Ginny, who whispered, "Shh! Listen!"
Somewhere out in the darkness, Fawkes was singing a song that Harry hadn't hear before. It was a beautiful sad son, one that seemed to embody all the grief and fear that they all felt. It was as if their sorrow had been turned into a stricken lament of terrible beauty that echoed over the grounds and into the castle.

As Fawkes wept a tear leaked from one of his eyes. The tear slowly traced its way down Fawkes's feathers and rolled across his beak. It twinkled in the moonlight as it descended through the air. A small plop could be heard as the tear splashed onto Dumbledore's forehead. It was soon followed by another tear. And another.

Bones popped back into place, cuts fused together and vanished, and organs knitted themselves back together. But Dumbledore's mind remained blank. More phoenix tears fell and the magical damage from the Killing Curse was undone. But Dumbledore's mind remained blank. All his physical and magical wounds were healed, but Dumbledore's mind remained blank. Each phoenix tear rejuvenated the body and kept it fresh. But Dumbledore's mind remained blank.

Soon after the phoenix's song ceased, McGonagall and Hagrid hurried over to Dumbldore's body. After surveying Dumbledore's body, McGonagall nodded to Fawkes and he flew off, tears still falling.

"Hagrid, this may seem unorthodox," said McGonagall suddenly. "But roll Dumbledore on his back, open his mouth, and give me your wand. Hurry!" Once Hagrid did this, McGonagall continued. "Pump against his chest, above the heart, as fast as you can, but not too hard mind you. After fifteen compressions, take a deep breath and exhale into Dumbledore's mouth."

"Bu-," started Hagrid, tears streaming down his face.

"Just do it!" snapped McGonagall. "Time is of the essence!"

Hagrid obeyed McGonagall hesitantly. He pumped Dumbledore, keeping careful count, chest and puffed into his mouth periodically. After a few repetitions, Dumbledore's chest caved in with a terrible snapping sound. Angrily Hagrid stood up and whirled around to face McGonagall.

"Please step aside Hagrid." said McGonagall unfazed "If you hurry, we may still be able to save Dumbledore."

Reluctantly, Hagrid stepped aside. McGonagall raised her and and Hagrid's umbrella so that they were pointed at Dumbledore.

"Electrosis!" shouted McGonagall and two streams of electricity shot out of the wands and hit Dumbledore at different parts of his chest.

Wailing in outrage, Hagrid stepped forward, raising his arm to strike McGonagall. Stopping the spell, McGonagall watched Dumbledore. His eyes flew open and he sat up while Hagrid stared dumbfounded.

"What 'ave yew done?" Hagrid whispered.

"Thank you very much, Minerva," Dumbledore look around. "Now, we must hurry before anyone sees me. It is essential that I am thought to be dead."
