Title: Jack's Thoughts

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Summary: This is an A/U one-shot of Jack's thoughts before the good half of the book (in my opinion.) This makes it all seem like Jack knew what he was doing the whole time.

Jack's Thoughts
by MalusMagus

The Pacific waves held a calming rhythm, going back and forth, as if wanting to come all the way up the beach before changing direction and sinking back into the ocean and then coming up once more.

Jack Merridew walked along the coast. His eyes held an angry sort of passion; a passion to kill.

The choir- the hunters- Jack corrected himself- don't seem to be loyal. One minute, they are with me, looking for a kill, then next, with Ralph, Piggy, and that bloody conch. This needed to be fixed.

Jack changed direction and started walking the way he had come. Jack brainstormed answers to his problem. He came up with quite a few good ideas. He liked so many of the ideas that he made a list in his head. It would be a plan.

Go hunting more.

That was number one. The choir seems to like hunting. It gives them something to do. They were following him when they were hunting. Yes, that would be the first step.

Jack once again started walking in the opposite direction. The wind messed his long ginger hair as if in protest of the change in course.

Leave Ralph's all-mighty, good for nothing group.

After all, the choir was composed of quite a few of the bigguns. If they leave, many will follow. They would leave Ralph with the littluns and Piggy.

Take Piggy's specs.

If we have Piggy's specs, then we have fire. Eventually Ralph's fire will die out and they won't have fire anymore. They will have to join our group. That leaves the noble chief to fend for himself or beg to join.

Last…

Jack changed his direction a final time.

Kill Ralph.

If anyone were to see Jack right now, surely they would flee. If they had seen him, they would have seen that look in his eyes. The malicious glare of one who desires to kill; one who takes pleasure in killing.

The ebb and flow of the ocean tide remained unchanged as Jack left in search of his hunters.

Goodbye, Ralph.
