The vampire watched his victim from the shadows. Easy kills had been difficult here in the last few years. Ever since the slayers set up a headquarters here.

Ever since those bitches moved in the vampire population had been thinning. It had been bad enough fifty years ago when the Witch activated all the Potentials. Now it was virtually impossible to feed. Most vampires had resorted to feeding off animals and the sick to survive. Human blood of any kind was a delicacy.

The vampire salivated. The human's heartbeat echoed loudly in his ears. It was a woman, elderly and leaning heavily on her cane. The streets were sparsely populated and it would be easy enough to drag the old woman into an alley.

Unable to stand the gnawing hunger, the vampire darted forward. He clamped a hand over the old woman's mouth and dragged her back into the alley.

Suddenly, the woman thrust her elbow behind her into his stomach. The vampire stiffened and reached down to cradle his stomach. The woman threw her head back, smashing the vampire's nose.

The vampire released the old woman and stumbled back. "What the hell?"

The woman sighed as she easily fell into a fighting stance. "Vampires these days."

"You're a slayer!"

The woman twisted the head of her cane and yanked it upwards. The handle came loose to reveal a wicked sharp stake. "I really must be getting old. I haven't gone unrecognized since I first moved to Suunydale."

The vampire paled. "You're Buffy Summers! But you're old!"

Buffy lunged forward and sunk the stake into the vampire's heart. "But at least I'm not dust."

Buffy watched calmly as the dust settled to the ground. She slotted the stake back into her cane, lamplight shining on her grey hair.

She rubbed absently at her aching wrist. "Damn RSI."
