The Right Path
Tears formed in Obito's eyes when he saw Rin on the other side standing in front of him. Finally, after so many years he was able to see her.
"Rin."
She looked at him, her eyes filled with sadness. Obito turned away, ashamed of things he had done.
"Obito, do you know why I died?" Her voice calm and gentle.
He looked down. No words would leave his mouth.
"I died for Konoha. The same village you attacked afterwards."
"I was devastated after your death. I know it's not an excuse. I won't blame you if you leave me here." He avoided Rin's gaze.
Rin sighed. "You caused lots of suffering to many people including those we both care about."
Obito wished she would shout at him instead her voice remained calm.
"I've been watching you all the time, and my heart cried when I saw you suffered and hurt other people. I wanted you to respect my choice and protect Konoha, so you could someday fulfil your dream of becoming hokage."
"I'm sorry," tears rolled down on Obito's cheeks, "I couldn't accept the world without you. I hated the shinobi world where you had to die, Kakashi had to live his life with regrets, and Minato-sensei wasn't there to stop all these from happening. I didn't care about your choice or about others' lives. I was wrong to follow that path. I regret I gave up on my dream. I'm grateful to Naruto that he reminded me what being hokage means. I won't blame you if you give up on me. You suffered too because of me."
"It pained me to watch you, but I won't give up on my best friend. I knew someday you'll come on the right path." Rin smiled.
"I'm sorry it took me so long."
"You got lost on your way like always, but I'm glad you're here, and you're the Obito I always want you to be."
"Thank you." Obito wiped his tears away
Rin offered her hand to Obito. "Let's go."
Obito grabbed her hand. He needed to save Kakashi, but he and Rin would soon move on to the better place.
