It's been a while since they've been in the same country, let alone the same room. Last Christmas was loads of fun, what with finding the perfect present for Artie and being surrounded by everyone she considers family – but it was hectic like only something involving a Claudia Donovan original scheme can be. This year it's quiet with just the two of them, no artifacts to manufacture good cheer or wildly unexpected kisses. The radio plays in the background as she helps Joshua decorate his small apartment in red and green.
It's only when she's curled on the bed, almost reaching the shores of sleep, that Claudia realizes the day was serene compared to her usual routine. Nothing blew up or tried to harm her, it was only her mile-a-minute mouth regaling Joshua with the latest Warehouse hijinks or the escapades of Pete the Ferret that constituted the craziest part of the day. The young genius isn't sure she'd want every day to be like this, but it was a welcome change of pace.
