Suffocation
The crisp ground crunched under his weight as Bobby stepped his feet out of the SUV, slamming the door behind him as he walked in the direction of police sirens; the hussle and bussle of a crime scene evident even from this distance. Bobby heard the opposite car door slam shut and he turned towards Captain Danny Ross; not his usual driver but they had both been in the squadroom when the call came through, and it seemed that Captain Ross could not ignore any crime scene that came through his Major Case Squad.
They promptly walked towards the scene, an officer meeting them at the line. "Captain?" Ross nodded, looking at the young officer with slight impatience.
"What have you got?" Ross asked, glancing at Bobby who seemed to be scanning the area for his partner, Alex Eames. He, however, found Detective Megan Wheeler instead heading towards them.
"Male, late 50's, shot in the back." The young officer replied.
Megan stood next to the officer, "Detective Eames was the one who called in 911."
The feeling of shock cursed through Bobby like a tidal wave, "S-she was here?"
"Yes." Megan replied, nodding curtly, "She was with her father." Ross felt that that was all the explanation he needed for her not responding to his phone calls for the past 10 minutes.
"Eames is with him now?" Bobby asked, out of a need for confirmation. One that didn't come; Megan felt her eyes dart between Ross and Bobby.
"Logan is with her." She cryptically replied as dread filled her veins.
"And her father?" Ross asked, not wanting the crime scene to be filled with civilians, even if they were ex-cops.
Megan felt herself go cold, "he was the victim."
The chill filled the air at the same time the two men felt the air ripped from their lungs.
