Chapter 1:
It's been just over a month since the box last came up. Alby is getting impatient, he believes it's not going to ever come back up and we'll all starve here in the glade or die in the maze. Me and Chuch don't believe it though. I, personally, believe that there's a reason we've had to wait longer; the next time the box comes up, it'll be special. And I was right. Who would've thought that I, Newt, would be right for once. Alby always considered me as just a limp. Well I am more than a limp, im a hopeful limp. And this is the story of the new greenie.
The noise was deafening. The sound of a broken down elevator still moving. The creak and groans of the box going up once again. There were boxes and piles of clothing and in the corner, a shadowy figure. Just staring into the nowhere. Into the darkness. The pounding headache and the ringing sound didn't help with the sudden burst of sunlight shining down into what once was darkness.
A blonde, slim, muscular shape jumped into the box with the crying figure in the corner. They heard the soft whimpers that escaped their mouth. The rather tall shadow looked over into the corner, there wasn't much to see really. Only a gi-
"A girl?" The supposed boy said surprised. Gasps were heard from above. The boy squinted his eyes to check he wasn't seeing things and then held his hand out for the girl to take. But she quite literally did the opposite. She stood up. On her own. No questions. No confusion. Just direct actions.
Gally jumped down and stood beside Newt, "What's your name shank?" He asked, with what seemed curiosity but also sympathy in an unexplainable way.
"I'm-" She paused. "I don't remember. I don't remember anything since-" She pause again. "I don't remember anything at all." The girl put her fragile, pale hands on either side of her head and crawled into a ball, panicking.
Newt walked over and crouched down in front of her, "Hey. It's okay." He said. Not believing the words himself. "I'm Newt." He said, smiling and holding a hand out in front of her, the hope she would shake it and not leave him there to be humiliated. The girl looked at his hand. Then at Newt. Then Gally. She sighed slightly before embracing her knees and burying her face in her hands. That was when she realised how filthy she was.
"Hey, let's get you out of the box." Gally said, almost kindly. Newt seemed surprised by his kindness. So did everyone else it seemed. The girl nodded and slowly stood up, gaining control and balance. Newt made sure she knew he was there if she lost it again. Gally got out the box first. Newt lifted the girl for Gally to pull up. He did, and Newt climbed out.
Everyone parted, leaving an area for the girl to be put down. She lay there, eyes closed. Newt stared at her longingly. He wanted to know what she was thinking so he could ease her thoughts. He didn't know why, but he felt the need to protect her suddenly. He felt responsible for her safety. And he could see the same look in Gally's eyes. Responsibility.
Gally shook it off and turned to Alby, "What do we do with her? Do we just leave her here to stare at the sky?" He asked, in a harsh way that he needed the answer to be no. Alby shook his head.
"We take her to the Homestead for her to rest and think." Alby said. "Who knows how she feels right now."
Thank you for reading the first part of my story. I'm sorry it's so short. I will try to make the next one longer. If you are struggling to understand please PM me an I will explain it to you. I will try to update soon.
