One Month Ago

"I just can't believe I'm leaving!" Nina looked deeply at Fabian the night before she left Anubis for the very last time. A single tear caught in her eye, and despite her best efforts, it slid down her cheek. Fabian put his arm around her as they sat on the couch in the living room, him also trying to fathom that she was really going to be gone.

"No, you don't have to be gone! You may not be here, but you will never leave. You'll always be here in spirit, at least if I have anything to do with it."

"Thanks, Fabian." She said quietly.

"You know, I got you something." He said with as much of a smile as he could manage.

Her face shifted to a mixture of surprise, pure depression, and pure joy.

From behind him, Fabian pulled a little, flat box. He gave it to her to open, and inside she found a golden necklace with a picture of them inside. Her face lit up, and she glowed as Fabian helped her put it on.

"I don't think I'll ever take it off." She vowed pleasantly. And they kissed.

As she pulled away, she knew that she was going to remember this forever.

One Month Later

The waves of pain rushed over Nina. But it wasn't pain from a broken arm, or a broken foot. It was the pain from a broken heart. But this pain couldn't be healed by a band aid, or a cast. It could only be healed by Fabian. And as Nina lied on her bed a month after she's left, it almost hurt more than it had when she'd first gone. Nina had just gotten home from her new school one day, and was sick of everyone talking about kids getting together, thinking they had it figured out. Because really, they didn't. But she and Fabian had. And it hurt her so much to know that she might never have it like that again.

In the middle of this pity daydream, Nina's phone chimed. It was Fabian, texting her about his day.

Nina realized then that she couldn't dwell over Fabian forever. She still had him. And she would always have his locket. She opened it up to look at a picture that meant so much to her. Like she had promised, she's worn that locket every day. She slowly snapped the locket shut, and she looked towards her phone. She was going to text Fabian back, and she wasn't allowing anymore pity on her self which comforted her in the best way. She had to come to terms with the fact that it is what it is.
